"I had an urgent request to get a permit across the line and Pedro was on his A-game and helped me within hours. Very professional, well documented, etc. Other structural engineers I hired only gave me headaches. I'd use Pedro again any day. Thank you very much, and glad to be in business with you!"

"I put an addition onto my home. I am not a GC but decided to take on the role as an owner builder ( I do not recommend for the faint of heart). The assistance and guidance I received from Cueto Engineering allowed me to progress through my project extremely well. I subcontracted some MEP work to be done in the addition through Cueto Engineering and could not have be more pleased with the professionalism and high standard set by Cueto engineering as well as the subcontractor. I had issues arise with the contractors I hired to do the work and the guys at Cueto engineering assisted and helped me work through the issues. I would certainly hire them again if I need anything else and I will recommend them anytime I get the chance."

Small jobs welcome

"Absolutely professional. Great customer service. Nicolas was excellent at getting the measurements, getting the drawings completed, and getting the results back to me in perfect timing. I highly recommend if you need an engineer, contact RES!! Nicolas even went above and beyond when the city planning and development department threw some loops into the permitting, by contacting them and getting the results they needed quickly. Best engineer service I ever had and will use!!! Thanks to nicolas' team for getting the job done!!!!"

"I opened the door to the garage one day and there was light coming in the original 1959 wooden garage door and i realized it was bowing out and the header was slipping down. I talked to garage door companies and they were unwilling to touch it because it would require structural engineering to bring up to hurricane code. No handyman would touch it because it was too big of a job for them, and I talked to several general contractors who would either refer me to a structural engineer who couldn't seem to coordinate with anyone, or they weren't interested because it wasn't a big job. One contractor said he only did highrises. And then I talked to Lenny, and he wound up coordinating everything and everyone. The county inspections, the extra electrical work, the engineering, the concrete work and the rebar work, custom sizes, everything. Very happy!
The crew came out, worked quickly & professionally, cleaned up after themselves. Lenny was very responsive and always returned phone calls in a timely fashion. The price was more than reasonable.
I am working on my house piecemeal, and I would not hesitate to use him again.I just wish I had found him for the last big job!

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Dormers must be able to bear the load of their own construction and the added window. The style of the dormer, however, will determine where the weight loads onto your home's structure. A gable dormer bears the weight on the side walls whereas a shed dormer bears it on the front walls.

Foundation cracks that are 1/8 inch wide or less, aren’t uneven across the gap, and don’t continue widening over time are usually just normal settling cracks and don’t suggest structural issues. Horizontal cracks and stair-step cracks on foundation walls, any cracks that continue widening, are wider than 1/8 inch, or where one side juts out beyond the other, are often indicative of structural damage.

The 10 10 rule describes the formula most contractors use to determine how much to charge for a job. Allowing for 10% overhead above the total projected cost to do the work and 10% profit sets a contractor up for success, even if there are delays or other problems on the project. This formula isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but it is a ballpark figure to begin with when estimating your expenses on a job.

If your home's foundation was damaged due to shifting soil, the same problem will reoccur unless you stabilize the structure by adding posts in the bedrock.
