QUIRINO CONSTRUCTION CO

In the summer of 2017 I had an electrical fire in my home which resulted in major damage to my office and moderate damage to the adjoining rooms. I decided to use the opportunity to remodel the kitchen, living room, laundry area and garage. We used the Quirino's as our GC. I could not be more satisfied with their work. Coming highly recommended, John Quirino has been in the business for decades and his experience was very valuable and reflected in his work. Together with his son JP, John assisted us in every aspect of the remodel design from drafting the plans, coordinating with an engineer & architect, and of course permits. JP was available to address every concern that arose and remained patient with us throughout numerous plan changes. The subcontractors they used were professional and honest. In Miami where it is exceedingly difficult to find trust worthy and reliable people in the construction business, it was refreshing to find a GC as knowledgeable, diligent, and honorable as JP and his father. I plan to use them again for future projects and would recommend them without reservation.

We had been shopping around for the better part of  a year for a design-build company to help us plan and transform what was an antiquated postage-stamp-size kitchen in a 1950's era home in Miami Shores. After almost giving up the search, we were introduced to the father-son team of Quirino Construction, who we immediately felt comfortable with. John Quirino has been in construction for more than 50 years with a background in design and  draftsmanship. His son, JP followed in his father's footsteps and together have developed a staunch and loyal following of satisfied residential, commercial and institutional customers.  

Following  a couple of initial meetings in November, 2013, to discuss our vision and needs for a new kitchen, John literally put pen to paper to draw up an initial conceptual floor plan and elevations (all by hand in old-school draftsmanship style). The plans would eventually undergo numerous tweaks and modifications to suit our concerns, indecision and frequent changes of mind along the way, but never an issue for John.  Following our approval of the plans, we executed a formal contract on December 28, 2013.  The project which entailed the complete gutting of the existing kitchen as well as opening up a wall into the living room, included the design and installation of custom cabinetry, plumbing enhancements and a complete electrical service upgrade to the house (including new/rewired electrical panel and installation of a new 200amp meter can and elevated electrical supply mast).  Once the detail plans were finalized (also meticulously done by hand), they were submitted for permitting to  Miami Shores in mid-January and approved on February 13, 2014. It should be noted that due to the Quirino's extensive work in Miami Shores, they have an excellent relationship with the building department as well as the respective trade inspectors, which significantly facilitated the project's progress. Due to our respective pre-existing scheduling commitments, travel plans, etc.,  the physical project was only scheduled to commence on May 7, 2014.  In retrospect, we should have given Quirino carte blanche to start earlier,  as once they did start, there was never a question as to the integrity, honesty, personal care and quality control exercised not only by John and JP Quirino,  (one of whom was always present on site), but also by the team of sub-contractors they used on the project;  including Longman Electric, Serota Plumbing and Extreme Cabinets, (another old-school craftsmanship father-son team), all of whom we developed an excellent rapport with and never once worried about leaving the house while work was underway. Considering the very invasive nature of the project, namely involving the demolition phase as well as some unforeseen but not surprising structural issues that came to light, the Quirino's worked expeditiously, often times well past normal working hours to get the job done as quickly as possible; always cleaned up after a day's work and were extremely proactive and communicative with respects to issues/problems, coordination and scheduling.  There was also never any question or resistance in dealing with certain requested post-installation changes involving the cabinetry. 

The project achieved substantial completion towards the end of June, 2014. The only component that was somewhat delayed was the electrical service upgrade to the house, which had to little to do with Quirino as it had with trying to coordinate schedules with our local electrical service supplier, Florida Power & Light to disconnect and run a new power feed to the house, which finally took place on July 17, 2014.

Not only was the project performed to suit our schedule and needs, but factoring in credits for changes in scope and materials and add-ons for additional requested items, actually came in below budget.
