"Stephen installed 2 bathroom exhaust fans for me. He arrived when he said he would. He kept me informed of any changes he needed to make in our plan and waited for my agreement before proceeding. Overall, he did a great job."

"Joe Sullivan's painting did our office and hall columns and the results were great.  We had them come back to paint a ceiling that was water stained over the winter and weeks later the stain cannot be seen.  Both times Joe was responsive via email and fit the jobs into very specific days that we needed.  They might not be the least expensive around but you get what you pay for.  We will be calling Joe again whenever our next project comes up."

"I would recommend Daryl and his guys to anyone and in fact have already referred a friend that used his services to have 2 ceiling fans installed. The most personable of all the companies we were quoted by, Daryl took his time on our initial consult and explained what needed to be done and how it would be executed. He answered all of my questions and even provided information he could have used to charge me more. The quote Daryl provided us was more than fair judging by all quotes we received. Should I need any more electrical work, Daryl Carter Electrical Services will be who I will call and suggest to anyone in need of electrical work."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.
