Small jobs welcome

"Bill and Jim did an EXCELLENT job of painting my walls going up to the 2nd floor, the living room and all the trim. They were very neat in their work, and cleaned up all their supplies without any mess leftover. I would DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone who needs some painting done, AND they were very reasonable with their price, and because I was impressed with their work, I gave them a $200.00 bonus. HIRE THEM!!!!"

Customers say: True professional

"The deck hadn't been stained in a few years and needed at least two coats of stain. When we first spoke he was fine with two coats. The stain I had purchased myself. A premium stain knowing the wood would soak it up like a sponge. When he started, I stopped by to check on the deck and he stated that it would only need one coat. I said two, as we had agreed on earlier. That's when he started giving me a hard time about the second coat. He was insistent that it only needed one. He wanted an easy in and out job. He finally agreed on two coats. When they finished there were areas that didn't even get one coat (back of one of the two benches and an area of decking next to the house). The one coat places were in areas that I guess he didn't think I'd look, behind bushes etc. , hire someone else."

"Paddy's guys did the work and clean up the same day. They did such a great job that their foreman checked their work the same day instead of a week later. They charged a fair price for my tiny house. Will recommend every time!!"

"The final look was absolutely beautiful. A certain color i picked didn’t look how i expected it to & they were more than willing to paint over and redo that section with a different color of my choice. Everyone was very respectful & professional. I will be calling back for more inside work!"

"I use Sunrise Painting several times a year for both my clients I refer them to and for my own properties. He gets my quotes completed quickly and more importantly he gets the projects completed promptly. I also appreciate the owner, Halil, follows up each completion with his own final touch ups and cleanup. I think he and his firm are the best."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.
