"I use Sunrise Painting several times a year for both my clients I refer them to and for my own properties. He gets my quotes completed quickly and more importantly he gets the projects completed promptly. I also appreciate the owner, Halil, follows up each completion with his own final touch ups and cleanup. I think he and his firm are the best."

"Dennis and crew did a fantastic job painting the whole interior of our house, which was fully furnished. They moved and/or covered everything appropriately. While here other jobs not origanily requested were performed when asked, such as sanding and staining handrails, painting outside front door, as well as other small areas ouside not done correctly by the builder. Dennis is very detailed and made sure all dry wall imperfections were correctly taken care of prior to painting. Highly recommend."

"We hired DMJ Custom Colors to clean and apply solid color stain to treated wood skirting on our beach house. Dennis spent much time with me advising me on which products would be best. He even provided a contact with a paint manufacturer and encouraged me to consult with him. This was extremely helpful. He and his men did a wonderful job, with great attention to neatness and detail. He promptly responded to ever contact and finished the job promptly. We could not be more pleased. His price was a little higher but I was willing to employ him because of his helpfulness. It was a great experience and I will use him again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Whitewashing isn’t permanent, but it can last for a long, long time. When you apply it correctly or have a seasoned pro whitewash your brick, whitewashing can last for 20 to 30 years or longer. Whitewash is very durable and typically requires little maintenance, making it a great project for most DIYers.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

The best way to protect a deck is to prevent damage from UV light, water, mold, mildew, insects, and abrasive cleaning methods. Sweep regularly to prevent debris that hides bugs and traps moisture that can result in mold or mildew growth. Use a deck cleaner once a year to remove algae, mold, and mildew. Avoid using pressure washers on high, as they can damage the wood. Applying a deck sealant can protect the wood from UV and water damage, and adding shade can also reduce sunlight damage.

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.
