"It has been almost a year since the work was done and as anticipated, the same cracks have reappeared in the same locations. Why you may wonder?, because instead of taping the areas that possessed cracks and then skim coating over them, Mike decided that all they would need would be the skim coating. WRONG. Paid over $1000 for less than 12 total hours of labor. Mike and his helper never worked for more than 3 hours in a day and did not complete the project in the time fame promised. In fact, it took more than a week longer than anticipated. After refusing to provide a written estimate (my mistake in proceeding but I was in a hurry to get it done), Mike became rude and insistent that he be paid PRIOR to the completion of the project. Neither Mr. Kenton or Mike had communicated this is any form. After this little fit of temper, I rescinded my offer to have him paint the room as well. A lost opportunity for more business. Mr. Kenton was apprised of the situation and informed me that Mike does his own estimating and that he wouldn't intervene. Mike was unprofessional and did not do what he told me would be done at the end of his time on this job. I hope that Mr. Kenton will reconsider having Mike tarnish his companies reputation."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to hang your own wallpaper, but the process is tedious and potentially frustrating, and it can be challenging to get seams to line up and look clean and professional. Plus, depending on the type of wallpaper you’re installing, using too much or too little adhesive could cause damage to your drywall or plaster, peeling, and bubbling in the final product. It’s usually a better idea to hire a professional wallpaper installer to do the work for you, as the relatively low cost is justifiable, if only to avoid damage to your walls.

Wallpaper in bathrooms can last anywhere from one to 10 years, depending on what type was used, how well it was installed, and the measures in place to reduce moisture and humidity levels. Opting for a more durable variety and taking all the necessary protective measures will get you closer to that longer lifespan.

Having dated, peeling, or otherwise damaged wallpaper can decrease the value of your property, so removing that before listing your house is nearly always a good idea; however, since wallpaper tends to be a personal style choice, potential buyers may or may not love your aesthetic as much as you do.

Love the look of wallpaper but want to consider property value as well? Stick with something that is easy to change. If you are thinking of selling soon, make sure your wallpaper hanging is on-point and looks professional with no crooked seams, evenly matched patterns, and minimal bubbling or other imperfections.

Yes, many installation and painting services include wall preparation, such as patching holes, smoothing surfaces, sanding, and priming. It is recommended to confirm the specific preparations included with your provider.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.
