Small jobs welcome

"I actually needed a pond removed, but Jeff was FANTASTIC. Quick, efficient and beautiful work. He did what he said he was going to do, on time and well. I'd definitely use him again, and recommend him to others."

"Richard Pippenger completely rebuilt, upgraded and enlarged a small, poorly designed pond and waterfall with terrific results. His estimate was extremely fair, his aesthetic judgment was excellent, his work was meticulous, and his manner was relaxed and good humored but always professional. He delivered more than he promised, clearing and regrading the area around the pond and incorporating and extending an existing stone wall into the design. He was communicative and collaborative throughout. His expertise on everything from fish and plants to equipment and stonework made talking with him an education. I can't recommend him highly enough."

"Marino's Water Works was great on a crazy snowy Saturday afternoon (3 feet of snow on the ground, more coming down) when our water pump stopped working. Answered our call immediately, arrived at our house within an hour, fixed the problem (a lightning strike had incapacitated the pump, requiring soldering wires and then flipping the circuit breakers). What a relief! Getting out of our driveway proved a terrible challenge -- ice and snow on a sloping curve -- but we figured it out together with a tremendous amount of good humor and calm. We recommend them HIGHLY."

"I am hiring Northwind for two additional projects. They do beautiful work and they follow through and follow up. My only issue was that the project should have started in the summer, did not start til October and was finished at the beginning of January. We really couldnâ t use it til the spring."

"Marcos and his crew redid my back patio by pitching it away from the house so water would drain . He also added on to the patio using both my pavers and additional ones . He used Belgian blocks as an edge. Most importantly, he fit pieces perfectly around areas which could not use a whole paver. Magnificent job all around."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

You have several options for your pond by getting your yard ready for the winter. You can winterize your koi pond by ensuring it’s at least 5 feet deep so it doesn’t freeze completely, installing a pond heater or aerator and having it run at all times, and installing a deicer if temperatures are dangerously low for an extended period. You can also choose to shut down your pond for the winter by removing all the wildlife in it and bringing it indoors, cleaning out the filter and pump, and then covering the pond with a tarp.

Yes, natural pools can get algae since they use the same filtration processes as lakes or streams. However, you can reduce the risk of algae by adding more algae-fighting plants and not installing your natural swimming pool in direct sunlight, as it promotes algae growth.

Water features enhance aesthetics, improve outdoor ambiance, and provide a soothing, tranquil atmosphere.

Consider the pros and cons of installing a water fountain in your backyard:

Pros

  • Fountains can add beauty to your backyard.

  • Creates a relaxing space to enjoy in your yard.

  • Water features can add more value to your home.

Cons

  • Regular maintenance is necessary.

  • Upfront and maintenance costs can escalate quickly.

  • Space may not permit you to install the fountain you want.

One of the most important parts of building a pond is digging the right depth. Your pond needs to be at least one to two feet deep. The specifics of the depth will depend on factors such as the placement of the pond and whether you plan on having fish. If you have fish in your pond, it will need to be at least two feet deep.
