"BOSS Tree Service did an amazing job at our property. Removed about 20 large trees and many other small ones. They also excavated and cleared up our front yard to finally have a lovely grass yard! Great people to work with."

"They were very thorough in a tree trimming project I hired them for originally. I then tried discussed with them that I was looking for a lawn maintenance service. I would be mowing myself but wanted someone to provide the maintenance, ferilization, soil conditioning and other basic services for the year. Their price was fair and the day I signed the contract, they showed up to take a soil sample and provide the first treatment. They have been nothing but polite on the phone and very responsive with email replies and updates when they complete any portion of the project. I recommend using them."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

White vinegar does not kill ivy on trees because its acetic acid concentration is not high enough to overpower it. Vinegar is an effective herbicide for weeds and other plants, but not for the strength of most ivies, including poison ivy and English ivy. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.

It’s not as common for Dutch elm disease to affect other types of trees, especially if the surrounding trees aren’t elms. However, it is possible for DED to spread to other trees, particularly in northern states, like Minnesota. In fact, it’s a good idea to use geography to identify wood and determine which types of trees are in your yard.

Unfortunately, the complex and shallow root system of elm trees makes surrounding elm trees particularly vulnerable to DED. Early discovery is key!

Local tree removal prices range from $200 to $2,000 overall, but vary depending on:

  • Local cost of labor and supplies

  • Accessibility of the tree

  • Local laws regarding who is allowed to remove the tree

  • The species of the tree (softer woods are often easier to remove)

  • Local seasonal discounts for the off-season

Leaf removal costs between $400 and $1,000 per acre on average. Nationally, the cost of leaf removal averages about $350. Cost factors for this project include lawn size, leaf removal method, tree density, location, and the time required to do the job. If your lawn removal service charges based on lawn size, you can expect to pay $0.02 to $0.10 per square foot.

Many gardeners charge an hourly rate for their services, and your total cost will depend on the amount of services and the experience of the gardener. Gardeners with basic experience charge between $20 and $30 per hour, while a more experienced gardener can charge as much as $60 to $88 per hour.

The cost of lawn mowing is about $125, which you might need on a weekly or biweekly basis. However, the cost of soil testing averages about $1,450, which should only be done every three to five years.
