"Kristian and his team are exceptionally reliable, professional, and detail-oriented. The quality of the work was really above and beyond. We especially appreciated the care they took in making sure everything looked perfect before they left - all the trim matched the other trim; two coats of paint on everything; all the dust was cleaned up. Another thing I appreciated was while our walls were opened up, they saw our plumbing was super old so they just updated it to the modern standard. Itâ s thoughtful and smart decisions like this that made the project so successful. We have a very old and often surprising house and they did an amazing job with it."

"John came to our house to give us an estimate which we thought was very fair. He helped my wife select a nice countertop, and he came in and removed the old countertop one day and was in the next day to install the new countertop. Excellent work and I would definitely recommend him for anyone else looking to have this kind of work done!"

"Matt did an outstanding job installing a new below-countertop sink, no easy task. He provided great consultation, advising us ahead of time on the sink options we could use, given our existing countertops. He was on time, explained the process clearly, and identified problems with the countertop that he fixed, in addition to the installation work. Great job, Matt!"

"Pro stone Granite installed granite counter tops in my home in a manner that was professional and honest. The company is primarily a husband and wife team and they both made me feel comfortable with my choice. The wife came in and provided a preliminary estimate and this was followed by her husband making an appointment for the formal fitting. They were both on time for the "quote", fitting and installation. Their price was good but more than anything else, they delivered what they promised when they said they would."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Concrete countertops should be sealed every one to three years, depending on the type of sealer used and the level of use your countertops get. For instance, hardworking kitchens will need yearly sealing. Sealing is important because it protects the surface from stains, moisture, and daily wear. Monitoring the countertop for signs of wear can help determine the ideal sealing schedule for your countertop.

Solid surface countertops are fairly resilient. You can use soapy water or ammonia-based cleaners. You can also occasionally use diluted bleach (around 5 tablespoons per gallon of water) for sanitization. Avoid window cleaners because they leave a waxy film that can dull the countertop’s surface. Solid surface material is nonporous, so there’s no need for sealing.

Engineered stone countertops range in price between $60 and $200 per square foot. The three main types are quartz, recycled glass, and sintered stone. The most affordable is sintered stone, which is ideal for outdoor kitchens and costs $60 to $100 per square foot.

Recycled glass countertops fall in the middle at $65 to $140 per square foot and offer a very distinct look. Meanwhile, quartz counters are on the higher end of the price range at $50 to $200 per square foot. Popular quartz options mimic the look of natural stones like marble and granite.

You most likely purchased a quartz countertop because it won't stain or etch like marble. However, etching can still happen depending on the quality of the quartz and whether it is repeatedly cleaned with harsh chemicals or exposed to acidic spills. Remember, while quartz is more resistant than natural stone, just like Superman when faced with Kryptonite, it is not indestructible.

Comparing engineered stone vs. natural stone countertops can help you figure out if one is better than the other for you. The answer depends on your preferences, needs, and budget. You might choose engineered stone if you are looking for something more cost effective and low maintenance, but it is hard to beat the beauty of natural stone counters. You may prefer their longer lifespan, the uniqueness of each slab, and their durability.
