"My contractor, Todd, was beyond excellent! He was extremely professional and helpful! His maneurism was very pleasant, and I enjoyed working with him on what needed to be done at my house! Todd put my mind at ease because I was extremely upset with the job that was done from a previous contractor. Todd was able to fix their mistakes, and he did it in a very prompt and courteous way. I feel that Todd went above and beyond for me. He did research on handicap ramps and found an economical and great handicap ramp. He traveled to pick it up and put it in for me. Not to mention all the great work that he had to undo from the awful job my previous contractor did. With all the work that Todd did, I found him extremely financially reasonable and economical! I will be hiring Todd to do more projects around my house! I fully recommend Todd to anybody. I have extreme confidence and faith in his abilities Todd has great work ethics and is a pleasure to work with! I look forward to working with him on my future projects around my house!"

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

Building an inground pool is a job best left to the pros. Excavating the area and building the pool requires heavy equipment and specialized training, and pools have complex plumbing and electrical systems. Unless you’re experienced in these areas, you’re better off hiring a pool contractor to make sure the job gets done safely and correctly.

You cannot DIY a gunite pool—unless, of course, you’re a homeowner who happens to also be a professional pool installer. And even pros need to have experience with gunite pools, in particular, before installing one. Only a skilled gunite pool technician can install this type of pool—it’s not a project you can do yourself.

No, stock tank pools do not get too hot, even when they are set up in a sunny location. Many stock pools are made with galvanized steel and are designed not to get too hot to touch. When your pool is full of water, it is less likely to get hot. The water might be warmer than it would be in an above-ground pool, but it will not be uncomfortable.

If you have kids and want to be extra cautious about the temperature of the stock tank, you may want to set up an umbrella for shade over the pool area.

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.

While spools are much smaller than pools, some clever features still allow you to get your laps in. Some spools include directional jets to create a “current” you can use to swim laps in a smaller space. They also allow you to use your spool as a spa when you’re done swimming.
