The owner rang my doorbell and introduced himself.  I showed him the areas I wanted addressed.  He asked if I wanted the leaves pushed into the wooded areas of the property.  I said no, I prefer they be removed.  He said he would leave a trailer for his guys to put the leaves into.  Red Flag: no vacuum truck

I did not see how many men on his team nor the amount of time they actually spent.

They did do a thorough job and the lawn and bedding areas looked good and free of leaves.

The owner returned at 5PM. As he handed me a couple of business cards and told me because he had to haul the leaves away it was going to cost more than the $299 price. He seemed to pull an extra $100 out of the air.

I would contend the trouble/ambiguity had its start in a previous deal this company offered for straight landscaping work.  It looks like they just changed the title.

I have used my checkbook as opposed to a rake for fall cleanup for many years.  Only once before did I have to deal with a company without a vacuum truck.  But we both knew it going in and agreed on a price ahead of time.
