"I liked that there was no nonsense. Their salesman was straightforward and the price was fair. We were also impressed with the installers. They installed all the windows in 1 day and they look great. I'm happy I chose them."

"Replaced my bilco door and fixed the concrete base it was on. Put down membrane in my crawl space (encapsulated it) and insulated the crawl space. Prompt, courteous, reasonable pricing. Would absolutely hire them again"

"Was very nervous hiring someone to do my roof. I’ve had bad experiences in the past. The salesman Nick met me at my home. Gave me in full detail a step by step breakdown of how the project was going to unfold. I just got my deck done a month prior. He assured me that everything would be covered, and the clean up would be thorough. On the day of my installation, not only was property protected. The owners of the company Zak, and Rich came out personally to bring insulation board to cover my railings of my new deck. I was very impressed with that, the detail and follow through with everyone involved with the project. My wife and I are planning to get the roof done on our rental property this year, and I know I only need to make one call to get the job done right. I highly recommend A1 Home Improvement for any outdoor project you have."

"Windows will take a few weeks to manufacture since they are being made for specific sizing. The windows are triple pane windows with argon gas in between each pane. We replaced 70-year-old windows, which were starting to rot. So glad that we replaced them. The windows are bit pricier than what you find in Home Depot, but quality is better."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired C&S craftsmen and the are the best contractor I've ever had the pleasure of working with. They were on time, professional and diligent. They took extreme pride in their work. They made sure that we fully understood what the process was and how long it would take. I would recommend C&S craftsmen to anyone looking for reasonably priced quality work done by a professional crew."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Window screens can help keep some heat out of your home, which is one benefit of using them in summer. It’s also the reason experts suggest removing your screens in winter—so it’s easier for the sun’s warmth to filter into your home. This will keep you cozier and potentially reduce your heating bills.

There are many ways to customize screens, including customizing frame colors and mesh styles to complement your home’s aesthetic.

Most window screens last for about 10 to 12 years, assuming they are made from quality materials and receive proper care. The lifespan of common materials like fiberglass and aluminum can vary based on weather exposure, as constant sun or harsh winters can accelerate wear and tear. Regular cleaning and basic maintenance can help extend their life. Signs that a screen needs to be replaced include rips, tears, brittle or sagging material, fading, or a bent frame. While small tears can often be repaired, larger areas of damage typically mean it's time to replace the entire screen.

The most affordable way to screen in a porch is to add a base track system to an existing wooden frame. The whole process should cost around $2,000 for supplies, depending on the size of your porch. It’s much pricier to build a screened-in porch or sunroom from scratch—and you’ll probably need to hire a contractor for a project like that.

Window seals don’t last forever, so they’ll inevitably fail for one reason or another. One of the most common reasons is the expansion and contraction of the glass. When the glass gets warm from sunlight, it expands and adds pressure to the seal; at night, as the glass cools, it contracts. This process, day in and day out, can eventually cause the seal to fail. Other common sources of failure include the house settling over time, chemicals that damage the seal when repainting windows, and incorrect window installation.
