"I seldom ever write evaluations for companies I use to maintain my home's utilities. When I do either, it's to praise the person or the business on their service or to call attention to any faults I've noticed. I needed to schedule an appointment with Tradewind Irrigation LLC setup my system for the winter. I made a phone appointment with someone. The man promptly gave me choices for an appointment and was professional and informed. When the technician arrived, I was surprised to see that it was the same person who had assisted me over the phone. Eric called to check in with me before starting the operation where he introduced himself. He was courteous, friendly, as well as professional. When he arrived, he reviewed his plan of action succinctly and completed it in no time at all. Before leaving, he updated me that everything went smoothly and without any issues. Based on my interaction with Eric, I would like to recommend Tradewind Irrigation LLC which hires some of the best people"

"Had True Green for a few years. First year or so they were great. Did what they said they would do.  Turned the lawn around.  However had issues with their guarantees.  That was the whole reason why I went with them.  When I ran into an issue last summer with their grub warranty I received lip service.  No one showed up to re mediate even though the regular guy from True green and I had called several times with no response.  This year started up.  I called and canceled.  Apparently they took notice.  Some guy said he was going to stop by and take a look.  Never did, but did send someone with grass seed.   Then they continued on as if I had not stopped.  I called when they said that they were coming to do some more work and said I had canceled.  That did not stop them.  They showed up anyway and did the work.  After complaining they did not charge me which was good.  A week or two later a guy spoke with me.  He seemed very sincere to keep my business, but it was a bit too late.  Why didn't True Green take action last fall when I called up a half dozen times?  Good things -  Their product is pretty good, but they ignored the soil testing results that I had.  Bad Things -  When there are issues they are not exactly smooth at straightening them out quickly.   Pricing differs from town to town."

"I highly recommend Rivers Construction for your next home improvement project. Dan and Janel are wonderful people and easy to work with. They come when they say they’re going to, keep me informed with regard to the work that is involved as well as the cost. They both have great work ethics, pay attention to detail and stand by their work. I’m very happy with the work they've done for me over the past year. Dan and Janel are the best and you will not be disappointed."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.

Yes, you can put topsoil over sand to encourage grass growth. The topsoil will help to improve water retention and promote grass roots’ development, making it a recommended step of the seeding process. Adding a layer of topsoil will provide additional nutrients to the sandy soil, helping the grass grow and remain healthy through many seasons.

The best time to plant grass seed depends on your local climate and whether you have cool-season or warm-season grass.

For cool-season grasses (like tall fescue), the ideal time to seed is late summer or early fall (typically August and September). During this period, the soil is still warm from the summer, but the air is cooler, creating optimal conditions for germination and root establishment before winter. There is also less competition from weeds. Spring is a secondary option, but cooler soil temperatures, the risk of a late frost, and less time for the grass to mature before summer heat can make it less successful.

For warm-season grasses (like St. Augustine), the best time to plant is from late spring through mid-summer (typically May and June), when temperatures are consistently between 75 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

In general, it is best to avoid seeding during winter or early spring, as cold soil and air can prevent seeds from germinating. For recommendations tailored to your specific grass type and climate, consider consulting a local lawn care professional.

Properly preparing the soil for planting grass seed may include applying fertilizer several weeks before spreading the seed if you plan to overseed the lawn. However, in most cases involving a brand-new lawn, spreading a starter fertilizer along with the grass seed will give it the best chance of taking root quickly and growing strong.

The best hardiness zones for St. Augustine grass are USDA growing zones 8, 9, and 10. However, with a bit of extra attention, it'll also grow well in zones 7, 11, and 12.
