"Kevin was awesome! We had a long list of problems that needed to be addressed, from installing a vent/light in an upstairs bathroom to fixing two outdoor electrical outlets to repairing a ceiling fan that was improperly installed, among other things. He did everything we asked him to fix in one day at a very reasonable price. We would hire him again in an instant. We like to fix things ourselves, but when it comes to electrical work, we leave it to the pros, and Kevin is not only professional, but really easy to work with. Thanks, guys!!"

"Ken was vey professional and agreed to come out on a Saturday morning to do the work. Him and his assistant worked very fast and efficient and accomplished the entire project in an hour and half. He was careful and clean with installation of ceiling fans, working above the furniture. I want to have him come back and do some additional switches and outlets.

"Now that I have typed it up, looks like we hired electricians to change light bulbs for us.  But, we didn't know that when we called them, and they could have just as easily sold us on new sconces and an overhead light for the kitchen.  And, when they told me that they had to go to Home Depot to get supplies, I asked them, "Would you mind picking up something for me there?"  They quickly responded, "Of course." without even asking what it was first.  It could have been trash barrels and I think they would have done it.  Actually, it was the flood lights for the back yard.  One was burned out, and I wasn't sure on size, etc.

The workman were considerate, didn't laugh that they were only changing light bulbs, and were generous with their time - not making me feel rushed in what all I needed to have done.

Since, then, I have purchased a condo and will be contacting them to change all of the indoor lights.  (Again, using electricians to change bulbs, but they know how to do it, and what to use so it will last a long time.)

My price also included a 5% Angie's List discount.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Yes, ceiling fans come with a few other features that help with function, style, and convenience. Multi-speed fans can give you specialized control over the airflow. Consider getting one with an integrated light to save ceiling space. Some ceiling fans come with a remote control that enables you to change direction without climbing a ladder. Of course, you can also consider installing a wall switch to enjoy that convenience.

There are many types of ceiling fans, from self-automated smart ceiling fans to outdoor ceiling fans that provide additional comfort to your patio. What you choose all comes down to function and personal taste.

Consider your ceiling height when selecting a ceiling fan. Rooms with ceilings under eight feet high will do well with low-profile ceiling fans, also known as flush-mount or hugger ceiling fans. If your home has cathedral ceilings or ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, you’ll need a large ceiling fan with a heavy-duty motor to get adequate air circulation.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.
