"Our power went out in the kitchen in the very early morning. Jeremy not only answered but came out and found the issue ( going on the back deck) that made the breaker trip. He not only found and fixed the problem in a emergency situation, but he didn't break the bank. He was kind and knowledgeable. We found our go to."

"I am certain you can't find a more skilled, honest and fair electrician and tradesman than Gary Fisher and his team is wonderful. I received a quote from another electrician for over $20,000. Gary and his team actually did more work from me at about a third of that $20,000 price I got from a different electrician."

"Tom is great. I first hired him 3 years ago to install ceiling lights. He was professional, friendly and efficient. His bill at the end was very fair. I rehired him this month to install a ceiling fan I bought, and correct a few outlets. The new ceiling was missing pieces, requiring me to exchange it for another one. He came back again to install, only to discover the new one looked like it had been used. I am about to go back to Lowe’s a third time to return this light and go elsewhere. Meanwhile, Tom told me he would be back within a week to install. Great guy!"

"Very rapid response to request for estimate. (almost immediate) Competent, rapid completion of bathroom fan & vanity light installation, vent to soffit, rewire switches. Clean installation (minimal damage to existing sheetrock). Price was a bit high but I did not try to negotiate. Worked on Columbus Day! so job was not delayed. Recommend as a professional and I will hire him again when needed."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
