"Frank’s team was wonderful! From start to finish, they were professional and respectful. Highly recommend them for both tree removal and stump grinding. The removal was tricky and cantilever over my neighbors house. I was amazed at how the negotiated the removal."

Small jobs welcome

"German has been plowing the snow from my driveway for 3 years. He is so pleasant to work with, honest and hardworking that when it came time to paint and repair the exterior of my house I asked him for a proposal. His price was very fair and the attention to detail and workmanship outstanding so far. The job is not complete yet, but I am so pleased that I wanted to write a review. So far the power washing, sanding, replacing rotted siding and priming has been on-point. For anything that I need done in the house (except plumbing and electrical) German is my first choice. I recommend him without any reservations: he is honest, hard-working, and pays attention to details."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

It is a bad idea to try to walk on a roof with snow on it. In fact, you should stay off your roof all year long, even when it is dry and sunny outside. There are too many things that can go wrong, and one misstep can cause serious injury or even death.

Rather, if you need to get something done on your roof, call in a pro. They have the right experience and know-how to get things done safely on a snowy roof, including snow removal.

Rubbing alcohol may also remove ice from your driveway in a pinch. It has a lower freezing point than water, which expedites the unfreezing process. Pour 70 percent isopropyl alcohol into a quart or half-gallon spray bottle and spray it on your driveway. You do not have to dilute it with water.

That depends on the size of your snow blower and how efficiently it uses fuel. Most snow blowers will last between 1 and 2 hours on a full tank of gas. Larger blowers tend to use fuel more quickly and need refilling more often.

Keep in mind, the average snow blowing project for a home driveway takes around 30 minutes. Large driveways and yards will take around an hour. A full tank of gas should be more than enough for snow removal, although the height of the snowfall will have an effect, too.

When temperatures drop far enough, even rock salt can’t melt the ice. The briny solution freezes before it develops, and the salt doesn’t work, which happens around 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep in mind that wind chill and other factors impact ice-melting progress. Some ice melters, like magnesium chloride, work at colder temperatures and work better for deep winter freezes.

Leaving a significant amount of snow on your roof can be risky. Most roofs are designed to handle about 20 pounds per square foot of snow, but exceeding this limit can lead to a roof collapse. A collapse can cause severe damage to your home and belongings and poses a physical danger to anyone inside. Furthermore, heavy snow accumulation increases the risk of ice dams, which can cause leaks and water damage to your roof, attic, and interior walls.
