Customers say: True professional

"Updating Cesar's work over this past winter. He piled the snow up neatly at the top of the driveway out of the way of the car and the house entrances.. There was so much snow at one time the pile was 12 feet high but it did not get in the way of us parking our cars or getting into the house, That's a real expert and he's just as good on the landscaping work. You won't be disappointed if you hire him."

"The work done was extremely thorough, and discussing schedules and pricing w/ German was a breeze. I had my backyard cleaned up, all leaves, sticks/ twigs removed which had built up over several years. My backyard has never been so clean."

"My yard was absolutely terrible. He came and talked to me about the different possibilities to make my yard look better. He also convinced me to add mulch to my yard and to be quite honest I was very hesitant, but after I gave it thought I decided to go forth. I am so glad that I did! My yard looks 100 times better! They worked fast and have lasting results. He was very responsive very respectful very informative. Thank you so much!! I will definitely be giving referrals, as I am very pleased with my yard. Whenever I am in need of yard work in the future, him and his team will most definitely be my go to. If anyone is looking for an honest landscaper, Al is your guy."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

If you don’t like the way your empty drainage ditch looks, reach out to a local landscaping professional to discuss your options. They may be able to liven it up with plants, stones, bushes, or other decorative elements. You can also add your own landscaping, but you should first make sure that it won’t block your ditch or prevent it from operating effectively.

Monkey grass makes a beautiful, low-maintenance ground cover, particularly in shadier areas where other grasses don’t receive enough sunlight to grow. It’s also excellent for edging walkways, bordering flower beds, and accenting rock gardens. You can grow it as a container plant, as well, which is a perfect solution for those who love its foliage but want to contain the spread.

While both fall and spring are suitable times of the year for planting trees, fall is typically the better option. Soil stays warm long enough to allow tree roots to establish in fall before they go dormant, while spring might give way to intense summer heat before spring-planted trees have time to grow strong roots.

While you can leave roots in the ground, if you don’t want the shrub to regrow again over time, it’s best not to leave any roots behind. Ensure you remove as much of the shrub as possible, including the root ball and any main roots you can see, to prevent new growth. Some gardeners opt for using a chemical treatment to prevent the stump from growing back, but this can kill beneficial microorganisms living in your soil.
