Customers say: True professional

"We recently had custom built-in bookshelves designed and installed by CT Yankee Crafts, and we couldn't be happier. From start to finish, the experience was an absolute pleasure. Nick was very communicative throughout the whole process, and he listened to our vision, then translated it onto paper and then into a beautiful masterpiece and a focal point in our new home. The best part is filling them up! Watching our book collection find its new home on these gorgeous, sturdy shelves has been so satisfying. It has completely transformed the room into a cozy sanctuary. Highly recommended for any custom woodwork!"

"I hired A2Z to tackle a number of projects around our house. A few bathrooms were remodeled, interior paint/spackling and exterior Ipe trim. I cannot be more pleased with the work done to our house. Weslyn was excellent at communicating when and what workers were going to be at the house. The workers a) did amazing work b) thoroughly cleaned up c) seemed to be good people. From painters to carpenters to plumbers..everyone did great work. I feel I got great value for my money and great work as well. I will hire A2Z again for other projects around the house. Ty Weslyn."

"Lav and his team did an amazing job on my exterior trim and window frames. My house is a 125 year old stucco that the wood trim trim had been completely rotted. Now it look brand new! I also hired them to replace the original wood support columns in the basement with steel."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

Landscape timbers can last 10 to 20 years in the ground when installed correctly. Pressure-treated timbers will last longer than non-treated ones, as pressure treatment makes the wood more rot-resistant. Wood exposed to high moisture levels or extreme temperature and weather fluctuations may not last as long as wood in drier areas with more consistent weather.

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Tipping contractors, builders, or general contractors is not customary or expected. Unlike many service professions where tipping is built into the payment structure, construction professionals typically charge a full rate for their services. However, you may choose to tip a worker for exceptional service, such as if they go above and beyond, stay late to meet a deadline, or work on a holiday weekend. Before offering a tip, it's a good idea to ask about the company's policy, as some prohibit their employees from accepting gratuities. If you want to show your appreciation for a job well done without giving a cash tip, consider writing a positive online review or offering to serve as a reference for potential new customers.
