"WB Dickenson remodeled my entire kitchen very recently. This company is amazing and we are thrilled with the results! Besides offering a high quality product, WB Dickenson has high quality professional installers, electricians and plumbers. Everything was done as promised. And the price was reasonable, too. They took an old 1980â s kitchen and turned it into something youâ d see in Better Homes and Gardens. We couldnâ t be happier!! WB Dickenson is an A++++++ company!! I highly recommend them for any project!!"

Small jobs welcome

"True Professionalism and Determination!! My local plumber did not feel he had proper equipment to snake the main septic line from house. Worried about baffles. Diagnosed the problem as a â soft blockageâ in the main septic line between house and tank. This was the cause of the washing machine stand pipe overflowing with water during drain cycle Septic company recommended Ace Electric Sewer. Paul came out with an assistant and dug up the septic cover to try to snake the blockage with a special blade on the end of the snake. That got some movement of water but not enough Water blasted the line from basement side clean out port which sits above the sump pump hole. That finished the job and water was flowing again. Considered a â sludge blockageâ which was probably due to age of house. Never had seen this type of service performed before, but it was truly needed at the end of June 2023 Not the easiest project, fair price, will definitely hire again if needed"

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

A reliable seasonal routine protects your plumbing work from extreme weather in Connecticut. In the fall, disconnect all exterior hose bibs and insulate pipes in unheated spaces to prevent freezing. During winter, monitor your water pressure closely and keep your thermostat above fifty-five degrees. Inspect exposed pipes for freeze damage and test your well water quality every spring. Finally, check your water heater for sediment buildup during the summer.

Helpful?

Completing plumbing projects in Ellington depends heavily on the scope of work and administrative processes. Emergency repairs and water heater replacements take just one day of physical labor. Larger projects like a whole-house repipe take three to seven days. You must also factor in permit processing and inspection scheduling through the local building department, which adds several weeks to your overall timeline during high-demand winter seasons.

Helpful?

Upgrading your plumbing directly boosts your home's resale appeal in Ellington. Connecticut requires sellers to disclose known material defects, so completing permitted plumbing work demonstrates a code-compliant, well-maintained system to buyers. Upgraded well and private septic systems serve as major selling points. Replacing aging galvanized or polybutylene pipes also improves your property condition rating during appraisals, giving you a clear advantage in the local real estate market.

Helpful?

Differentiating between plumbing work and other repairs requires checking specific symptoms. In Ellington, ceiling water stains near exterior walls point to winter ice dams, while stains near bathrooms indicate plumbing leaks. Wet basement floors near a water heater signal a plumbing failure, whereas widespread moisture points to foundation issues. For homes on well systems, sudden drops in water pressure require a professional plumber to inspect for pipe failures.

Helpful?

As homes age in Ellington, plumbing systems face specific local challenges. In older houses, galvanized steel pipes corrode and cast iron drain lines deteriorate. Certain homes built decades ago contain defective polybutylene pipes that require replacement. Additionally, acidic well water accelerates copper pipe corrosion and causes heavy mineral buildup in fixtures. Cold groundwater in Connecticut also forces water heaters to work harder, reducing their overall service life.
