Foreman and crew were prompt, efficient, knowledgeable and neat as possible for what is major work and could have been very messy. Their technology and application of that technology is absolutely first rate. Their systems will make our home comfortable and efficient for the long term! Excellent value for money."

"My grandmother contact John to have thermostat fixed as it was “locked” due to her messing with the unit. Faceplate was taken off and wires disconnected to hopefully reset it. Apparently this did not work as the faceplate never lit up again after. Ultimately, after about an hour visit my grandmother was left with a thermostat in worse shape than before & that now did not even light up anymore, a bill for $275 ,and told to call the thermostat manufacturer."

"Reading previous reviews for this company and I see that I am not the only person who has felt the wrath of Rick the owner who refuses to take any responsibility for his subpar work. He is rude and condescending if you question anything about his business. When they installed my mini-split they failed to properly insulate and condensation was leaking into my ceiling leaving damage. When I asked them to come fix the issue in July, they told me to turn off the unit until they were able to come back in about 4-6 weeks. I told them I had no intension of turning off my A/C all summer due to their poor workmanship. Rick was rude and abusive when we told them we were going to continue to run the units and go after them for any damage if chose not to fix the issue. They reluctantly came out and took care of this. There were a few other issues and each time they and their staff were rude and dismissive of our concerns. Fast forward a year and 2 months since the units were finally installed. I woke up on New Years Day to no heat. The breaker was tripped. I reset the breaker and still no heat. I called a different contractor to come out and look since I did not want to deal with this company again. The new company opened the cover and found that the wires were incorrectly installed and were up against the hot pipes with the refrigerant in it for heating. The heat from the pipe melted the wire causing it to arc and blast a hole in the pipe with all the refrigerant in it. I called R&W and explained the situation hoping they would at least come out and investigate. They told me that since it was more than a year since they installed it they would charge me a service charge to come out. I explained that they wouldn't need to come out if they had properly installed it to begin with, but that didn't matter to Rick. He would not take responsibility. I had some choice words for him as he did for me. I HIGHLY suggest avoiding this company unless you enjoy being treated horribly."

Your Key to Confident Home Ownership Since 1993! Pro Chek Home inspections covers the entire state of Connecticut and all of lower New York State including Orange County, Westchester County, Putnam County, Dutchess County, Rockland County, and the Bronx! We offer Home Inspections (which include a termite report as well as a complimentary Final Chek walk through the day of closing), Septic Inspections, Radon Testing, Water Testing, and Blower Door Testing. We do inspections 7 days a week!

"Inspector missed major safety/health issues that were (easily) uncovered by a third party after moving in. I was told that these issues should not have been missed by any competent inspector and the remedies cost thousands of dollars in repairs. Costs that could have been passed to the seller at closing as they were fire hazards and carbon monoxide issues."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Fireplaces can theoretically help you save on heating bills if you lower the temperature throughout the rest of your home and heat only a single room that you occupy using the fireplace. However, in most cases, homeowners won’t save any money on heating bills. Gas and electric fireplace inserts could actually lead to a spike in your respective energy bills if you use them frequently, and if you don’t keep up with chimney maintenance and repairs, your traditional masonry fireplace could actually be a source of heat loss in the winter.

There are several indications of an overloaded electrical panel, such as frequent circuit breaker tripping, burn marks, or flickering or dimming lights.

If you’re observing any warning signs, turn the circuit breaker off, then shift some devices from the overloaded circuit to a different one. If there are still signs of overload after turning the circuit break back on, contact a professional electrician to help you fix the issue.

Replacing a window frame will improve your home’s energy efficiency if the old frame is cracked or damaged in a way that allows unconditioned air from the outside into your living space or if you upgrade to a more energy-efficient window frame material. Aluminum is the least energy-efficient window frame material, followed by vinyl and wood. Fiberglass and composite frames are the most energy-efficient.

If you install LED bulbs, they will use much less energy than incandescent bulbs. LED light strips also use less power. Battery-operated puck lights use no electricity at all, but you will need to replace the batteries as needed. They are beneficial if your power goes out, too, as they will remain on as a light source.

Wood windows fall in the middle of the window frame materials when it comes to energy efficiency. They’re more insulating than aluminum and vinyl, but they aren’t as efficient as fiberglass or composite frames. If you love the look and lifespan of wood windows and want to maximize efficiency, you can upgrade to double-pane or triple-pane glass and consider window tinting and low-emissivity (low-E) coatings to minimize heat transfer.
