Small jobs welcome

"Guy was always on top of the job and fit us in as quickly as he could with his outside work. The quality of the work that was done was excellent. Inside painting & plaster work can always be a hassle but once he started the job he finished it within the week. Work involved painting ceiling of one bathroom, removal of wallpaper & repair of drywall & ceiling in second bathroom & repainting ceiling & wall of the bathroom. Also, drywall in the basement had to be replaced. Work in all areas was done efficiently and to high standards."

Customers say: Quality work

"First, I am a real person and this is a real unsolicited review. David did drywall installation and work in our home. Besides doing first rate work, he is open to answering all questions in depth and explaining what and why his plans for the project are or suggested. He can be trusted to do an excellent job and I highly recommend him."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, if there is mold in your drywall mud and you then use it to build walls in your house—or if mold develops in your set drywall, like it can in hot and humid areas—it can lead to illness. Mold in your drywall (or other parts of your home) can make existing respiratory conditions or allergies worse, and the effect can be more intense for those who have existing health issues or compromised immune systems.

There are several things you should not do when installing drywall. Common mistakes include: adding too many screws, over-sanding, not adding backing support, and installing drywall unevenly. You also should avoid screwing into the same place twice, installing Sheetrock with tapered edges on the outside, and making too many joints.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.

It’s less costly to drywall a fireplace than shiplapping it since material costs are higher for shiplap. However, if you’re DIYing the project, shiplap is less expensive since you won’t have to pay for labor. With drywall, getting a smooth finish is difficult unless you’re a pro. Shiplap is ideal for an accent wall or unique space, such as around a fireplace, since it adds texture and gives off a cozy vibe.

You’ll want to inspect your plaster walls for signs of damage before painting. If you notice soft spots, deep cracks, bubbling, or areas where the plaster is crumbling or pulling away from the wall, it likely needs repair. While small hairline cracks are common and likely cosmetic, you should address larger issues before painting to ensure a quality, smooth finish.
