"Did you know mildew is the gas given off from mold?? Joe offered great advice about the growth of mildew into mold, and my landlord's responsibility to remove it. I feel that he is knowledgable and would perform a thorough inspection. Based on my present economics and quotes from 2 other firms, and not to discount Mold Testing CO at all, I decided on another company. Joe at Mold Testing CO is definitely my second choice."

"My client hired Darrell to test for mold at the home they wanted to purchase. Darrell is very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about the test results in a way we could understand. Further, he had very timely responses and traveled to a far out location! Highly recommended!"

"Outstanding. They looked at everything possible (including the pricier radon and mold tests I wanted) and saved me from buying a crumbling money pit. The admins were extremely responsive and even shuffled the dates around to accommodate me since my agent made the inspection deadline way too aggressive. They found a plethora of issues that could have cost me tens of thousands of dollars with no guarantee they won't happen again. This company is simply incredible. The price is very reasonable too, especially if you aren't as picky as me and get their standard inspection (which still catches SO MUCH)."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Window sill mold can be harmful, but the severity depends on the type. Common household molds like Cladosporium or Aspergillus can trigger allergies, respiratory issues, or worsen asthma symptoms. However, black mold (Stachybotrys) can produce mycotoxins that can harm your health. Even less toxic molds should be addressed promptly to prevent health risks and property damage.

Yes, if there is mold in your drywall mud and you then use it to build walls in your house—or if mold develops in your set drywall, like it can in hot and humid areas—it can lead to illness. Mold in your drywall (or other parts of your home) can make existing respiratory conditions or allergies worse, and the effect can be more intense for those who have existing health issues or compromised immune systems.

If you believe mold is hidden somewhere in your home, don’t delay inspecting it, as it can be dangerous, especially to people with breathing problems and allergies. While it’s possible to learn how to check for mold yourself, we advise most people to hire a professional mold inspector, who can look more thoroughly. You can also purchase mold test kits if you aren’t sure if your home has mold, but a true human inspector is still your best bet.

Several factors affect the color of mold, including humidity levels, age of the mold, and amount of light it receives. A patch of mold that starts out green may darken and turn black as it ages. A species of mold may be green if growing in one environment, but be black in another environment. Color usually isn't a reliable way to determine mold species or risk.

Mold is very likely if you do not take action to fully dry your home within around 24 to 48 hours after water damage occurs. This can happen even faster in warm, dark locations with extensive water damage. In areas of the home that receive ample sunlight and only have slight moisture issues, it can take weeks for mold to appear.
