"Really great. Michael the owner is dedicated to excellence in every aspect of his company. Michael took very good care of us, as did his office staff, and the roofers themselves. Michael immediately saw that there was no vent thru roof for the upstairs bath fan as we have no attic. He helped saved us from a potential future problem and added expense as we are selling our home. Everyone was so nice and respectful. His prices are competitive and fair. Roofing was delivered. Home was roofed in one day. They cleaned up everything. You never knew they were there. The roof looks fantastic. Michael came back personally to do the final walkthrough and he did some caulking for us (he didn't have to) so the wasps wouldn't go under the flashing. Michael is the best. "I cannot say enough good things about Milton and the crew at Peachtree. We noticed a leak from our roof on a Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon, Milton had come to the house, taken photos, inspected the leak, and had us on a path to repair. By the following Monday, the roof was patched--at no up front cost to us-- and Nick, the adjuster, was taking care of scheduling with USAA for the insurance inspection. The rest of the process went smoothly as everything was handled by the Peachtree crew. I didn’t have to deal with the insurance company at all, though we were kept in the loop and we saw all the inspection reports. Peachtree advocated for our whole roof to be replaced as repair would have been inadequate. They also upgraded some hardware items (pipe boots) at no charge as our original ones had also led to damage inside the house. Speaking of that, Nick was able to have the inside damage caused by the boots repaired and paid for as well even though we hadn’t noticed it initially. Both exterior and interior repairs were carried out on schedule and we are pleased with the results. Milton was onsite during both days of the roof job to answer questions and oversee the progress. I would highly recommend Milton and his team. I am pleased with how easy the process was on my side and our house looks great."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

To maintain a skylight and ensure its performance over time, regular maintenance is required. This includes periodically cleaning the glass and frame to remove dirt, debris, and condensation. It is also crucial to inspect the seals and flashing at least once a year for any signs of wear, degradation, or leaks, paying special attention after heavy storms. Ensure that the drainage system is clear to prevent water buildup and potential leaks. Address minor issues like cracks promptly and consider occasional resealing to prevent drafts and moisture problems. While energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings or double glazing may require less upkeep, periodic professional servicing can help keep any skylight in optimal condition.

Water will leak through a skylight if there are issues in the sealing of the skylight. Find and fix those issues yourself if possible, but it’s a good idea to contact a professional, as there could be much more water damage than you initially saw. Plus, it’s dangerous to work on a roof without the proper safety equipment and know-how.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

The type of lighting you choose can have a big part in the aesthetic and function of your space. Ambient lighting refers to indirect or diffused lighting that evenly reaches most areas of the space. Task lighting illuminates specific areas, such as a workspace. Accent lighting draws attention to details in your home, and decorative lighting draws attention to itself.
