"Did great work replacing a storm door and an exterior door for us - they look and work great, he even came back out six months later to make adjustments at no cost when one of them shifted a little with the weather."

Small jobs welcome

"Hiring JK Construction to remodel my mothers condo was one of the best decisions we could have made. We initially contacted them to replace a bathtub with a walk-in shower, but we quickly realized that Jack and his team were just the folks we needed to remodel several other areas of her home. Jack and his team were professional, knowledgeable, prompt, respectful, hardworking and went far beyond our expectations to make my moms home a much safer and more comfortable place to live. They were able to identify issues that we had missed which would have created many more problems in the future. They worked with us to find the best solutions. I now sleep better knowing that Jack and his team did this work. My mom has said to me nearly every day since the project was completed, I do not know how we got so lucky to get Jack and his team I feel the same! We could not have been any happier. I am so grateful we found CK Construction. I highly and wholeheartedly encourage anyone looking to hire a very professional and ethical contractor that they consider Jack and his team. I would give JK Construction more than 5 stars if I could. They were that good!"

"I want to thank Jacob Tryon for selling me my Provia windows and sliding glass door. I want to thank the crew that installed them: Lorenzo, Ernesto, Pablo, Jonathan and Edgar. The crew removed and replaced 9 windows and a sliding glass door in 1 day! I also want to thank the 2 gentlemen that came and replaced the stucco, painting and replacing of my bars on my home. All the way through the whole process I was pleased with the professionalism. Everyone answered all my questions along the way. My Provia windows have more features then I knew. I absolutly LOVE them! I would recommend Flawless Solutions to anyone. I have already talked to some of my neighbors that asked about my new windows and my family."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"I had a very good experience with Freedom. Nick did an excellent job and the installs and insulation was top shelf. The install of the sliding door was great and Nick went above and beyond plus added a nice trim around the door opening that he custom made for no charge. The install was 3 years ago and I have not had one issue from any of the work performed."

"Extremely satisfied. Takes much pride in quality of workmanship. This project included installation of laminate flooring & bead board, window installation, drywall work, staining/trim work, etc. Will be using them again on the next phase of my remodel. Happy to provide a reference."

Doors questions, answered by experts

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

You can’t gauge the lifetime of a fire door like you could, say, an engine. Fire doors should be checked at least once every six months to ensure there are no signs of degradation like leaks, holes, water damage, termite damage, or anything else that might compromise the functionality of the door’s fire resistance. Check your smoke detectors while you’re at it.

A door sill is the bottom portion of your door frame, while a threshold is the transition piece that separates the two types of flooring between rooms, or serves as the transition between the interior and exterior on an exterior door. The threshold sits on top of the door sill. A kick plate is a protective plate that sits against the face of a door to prevent damage to the door from feet and shoes. You’ll usually only find kick plates on exterior doors, while every door has a door sill, and most exterior and interior doors have a threshold.

No, you cannot install a door without a jamb. The jamb is where the hinges, strike plate, and trim are attached. A person could ostensibly attach the hinges to the door frame itself, but it would hamper the door from opening and closing like normal. Door jambs also provide crucial support for the door and security for exterior entryways.

The strike plate, hinges, and handle are the parts of a door most prone to damage. These parts see the most frequent use, causing them to wear and twear faster than other parts of a door. If you’re experiencing door issues, check these three parts first to see if they need repairing or replacing.
