"I hired VH Handyman MULTIPLE times. He is very versatile. He moved his schedule to meet my needs. Painting, caulking, siding repair, baseboard work, bathroom and garage sink plumbing, and much more. His handy work helped me sell my home in the Redlands. I would not hesitate to hire him in the future. Great customer service skills and very personable."

"I hired Rodi and his team to replace old, stock interior doors and trim with custom stained knotty alder wood versions and add a beetle kill wood accent wall to the entrance of our split-level home. They also replaced basement bathroom drywall, re-textured said walls, and patched ceiling drywall holes left by my light fixture replacements. From the outset, Rodi worked with my wife and I to give our foothills home the rustic mountain look that we wanted. From scoping to scheduling and work order changes that we requested, Rodi kept us informed of where we were in terms of time and costs to get the project finished. He was a delight to get to know and made suggestions that significantly improved where we were wanting to get to style-wise. We did not realize how much of an improvement that the remodel was going to make. WOW! Professional touches abound in the work of his team. I highly recommend getting MyGuys onto your remodel schedule soon, as I will be looking to get blocks of their calendar for early 2022."

"They responded quickly to look at the tree I wanted removed. They were back in one hour with the tools to do it. Job done same day. While they were here I had them look at a project I needed done in the bathroom. Two days later they were here to do that job also well done."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

According to the EPA, mold grows within 24 to 48 hours if left untreated after a water leak. So unless you notice the leak and stop it right away, you only have a day or so before mold is a real concern. If you don’t notice the leak, it can take about three weeks for the mold spores to become visible. That means you’ve likely had an active mold infection for a few weeks by the time you notice discoloration.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.

Yes, small, superficial cracks are normal as homes settle. Older homes have a higher chance of showing signs of settling through hairline cracks from temperature changes, moisture changes, and soil shifting. However, larger cracks, or discolored cracks from water damage, may signify a bigger problem that requires reparations and preventative measures.

When you are learning how to tape and mud drywall, waiting for things to dry requires a lot of patience. So how long does drywall mud take to dry? On average, it takes about 24 hours. However, it depends on things like the thickness of the mud, as well as the room’s temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Using thin layers of mud in a warm, low-humidity room with good airflow reduces average drying time. You also could speed up drying time by making use of hot drywall mud, which consists of a powder that you mix with water, instead of using pre-mixed mud.

You can repair plaster ceilings yourself after the cause of the ceiling damage has been addressed. However, the repair can easily take 5 hours and can be slightly challenging for those without previous experience. If you do decide to flex your DIY muscle, have a helper to help hold the ladder and pass you the tools for safety purposes.
