"Jenna was very knowledgeable & thorough in explaining my current skylight issues (never sealed properly) & what solutions & options are appropriate for my size skylights & warranties. Jonathan, David & Alejandro did an awesome installation, respectful of my property, meticulous in their work & went above & and beyond, in my opinion. Communication was always excellent throughout. Highly recommend."

"We were getting a townhouse ready to sell in a city where we didn't live. We called John for an estimate. He worked with our renter's schedule and made arrangements to get into the townhouse to do the estimate. We met with John a week later when we got to town and discussed the painting to be done, plus a few other minor projects that needed to be attended to. Since John is a construction contractor, he could address more than just painting, which was quite helpful to us. John was very courteous, knowledgable and professional, and always very patient with my questions. Since time and speed were important to us, he worked with our schedule and needs. He was easy to communitcate with and finalize what needed to be done. He was able to take care of the the high ceilings and skylight without any difficulties, plus add an accent wall in the livingroom. John also worked around the schedule for vinyl and carpet installation. After the carpet was completed, he came back to touch up "dings" and marks on the walls and corners from the rolls of carpet being brought in for installation. He reinfored and secured a kitchen cabinet to the wall, that turned out better than when we bought the place. John was speedy and did quality work."

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
Local window and door specialists, glaziers, and roofers should all install skylights. You can also do an internet search to find companies that specialize in skylight installation near you. Keep in mind that skylight installation is very complex and can be dangerous without the proper tools and safety precautions, so we don’t recommend this as a DIY project.
A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.
Roof windows and skylights can be installed on various roof materials, but skylights are usually the only option that you have if you have a flat roof or a roof with a slope under 15 degrees. In these cases, roof windows have too high of a risk of leaking to be suitable options. The specific installation requirements may vary, so it's important to hire a window replacement contractor. Certain types of roofs may not be ideal if they limit the size of the window or if they pose an issue with rainwater collecting around the area.
Fixed skylights are by far the most popular type. Because skylights can be pretty high up on your ceiling, fixed (rather than operable) skylights remove some maintenance from the equation. Plus, you don’t have to constantly worry if you shut your skylight fully the last time you opened it or if you’re going to find a leak later on during a rainy day.
