"John is very professional and knowledgeable. He arrived early. After the boiler inspection we were furnished with a very detailed invoice about what was done along with recommendations for future repairs. I would recommend him for any HVAC repairs, installs or inspections and will definitely contact him again for additional repairs."

"Steve and his assistant tackled the installation of a WIFI contolled thermostat in my 120 year old house, in Ouray Colorado Tracing and replacing the thermostat wires and then hard wiring a 24 V rheostat in the wall adjacent to a 110V power source was an ingenious undertaking.....All turned out Perfect. And they left no messes for me to deal with.... I would strongly recommend this company for their expertise and quality of work performed. Steve also replaced old outdated interior sewer lines in basement same house 3 years ago, and did an outstanding replacement"

Emergency services offered

"Jon Nash provided an exemplary level of personalized service, working hard to install the Trane furnace in my new home in time for my move-in. I was so pleased with this installation that I hired him to install two Rinnai wall-mounted propane heaters in attached sunroom and deck. Mike (his head technician) and Tom (Mike s assistant) are great guys: friendly, personable, and accomodating. Mike was resourceful in getting power to the unit on my deck. Highly recommended! I m 68 years old and spent much of my life in the building trades, these guys know their stuff and know how to treat a customer right. I ve already recommended Comfort Zone to friends and plan to keep doing so."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

Warmed or cooled air can escape your home through drafty windows and doors. If you notice any gaps, be sure to caulk and seal them. You can also hire a local pro for an energy audit to get a list of energy-saving recommendations.

Finally, check your insulation. It can settle in over time and become less effective. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that you can save an average of 15% on heating and cooling costs (or 11% of total energy costs) by sealing leaks and making sure attics, crawl spaces, and basements have a nice layer of insulation.

If you want a new boiler that’s going to help lower your fuel bills, you should buy one that has a high energy-efficiency rating. For example, a boiler that is rated “A” uses at least 90% of the energy created by the boiler. And in order to enjoy the best performance, it’s important to have it installed properly by a highly-rated tech.

The absence of heating or hot water, unusual noises like banging or gurgling, and visible water leakage are key signs. Abnormal boiler pressure, flame irregularities (for gas boilers), or pilot light issues may also signal trouble. Frequent cycling, soot or staining, and unusual odors, particularly gas-like smells, should not be ignored. Modern boilers often display error codes or lockout mode upon detecting issues. Uneven heating across radiators and rising energy bills without increased usage can further point to problems. Prompt attention to these signs is essential to prevent further damage and ensure safety.

When winter rolls around, and you turn the heat on for the first time in a year, it’s normal to sense a light odor. This could smell a little like burning because some dust has gathered in the heating unit over the warm months and will fade away shortly after. However, there are some smells you should watch out for and take caution around: an egg-like sulfur smell or an electrical burn odor would indicate there’s something wrong. Turn it off and call a professional for maintenance as soon as possible.
