"Dylan is an exceptional craftsman. I have used him for countless jobs while restoring my 1913 duplex. He was able to manipulate a variety of salvaged materials that I requested to create the perfect complements to the original beautiful wood. Dylan was prompt, fair, and detail-oriented. I would recommend Dylan to anyone looking for exceptional work."

Customers say: Quick response

"I had an ugly, builder grade staircase from 1979. Brian and Bill did an amazing job updating my staircase to the 21st Century. They are very meticulous and careful with each step of the remodel. It was fairly extensive job and done wonderfully. It is really a work of art. They are true Craftsmen. That's extremely rare in this day and age. Christina was also very professional, and had great input for the design phase. Really glad I picked Out of the Woodworks for my project."

"There was a small mix up and I didn't get a call back like I was told that I would, but once I called back, they were responsive and scheduled right away. Discussion about oil vs water based polyurethane did not happen initially so I ended up paying more than was quoted for water based finish. Overall, they guys were great, and they did a great job. Floors look awesome."

"Matt did an amazing job getting my new cabinets put up. He was flexible with dates to get it completed and overall did a great job. His pricing was very fair for the work needed. If I ever need to redo my cabinets in the future, I will be calling him to get the job done right!"

"Highly recommend Brothers Landscaping. We had them completely so our backyard on a new home purchase and Carlos designed a beautiful yard with an outdoor fire pit, custom seating with an ornamental grass bed and a built up paver deck for the whole thing. The work was done correctly, diligently and he is on site every day ensuring work meets his standards and expectations. We also had several trees and bushes planted along with sod. Brothers all installed railings and stairs for the backyard. The bid from Brothers was much better than others but the reason I’d hire them again is for the quality of the work."

"Let just say, I've hired a few handymen before Niles but none were as professional, clean or had as good of craftsmanship. I had Niles install flooring in a few areas around my home and it came out great! I will be using Niles for all my future projects."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Hiring a woodworker can be expensive, depending on the job, but it’s very often well worth the investment. Woodworkers are able to provide custom pieces of furniture and handmade construction to present a finished product that is exactly to your specifications. If you have a specific vision for a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or home feature, the cost of hiring a professional woodworker is worthwhile. Plus, you’ll often get a higher quality product than what you could buy in stores for a fraction of the price.

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.

If you don’t have a coping saw, you can use an angle grinder to cope crown molding, but it takes a little more precision. Place your molding down on your workbench, angle the grinder at a 45-degree angle toward the molding, and back cut the wood. You’ll need to carefully angle your grinder to accommodate the curves in the wood, and aim to remove around 1 inch from the profile of the molding.

Some states require carpenters to be licensed to perform forms of carpentry, such as framing. The license requires a certain amount of experience and to pass an examination. In states that don’t require carpenters to be licensed, they must be licensed as a contractor if they work independently rather than solely as a subcontractor under a licensed builder. Use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to find out whether a potential carpenter is licensed in your state.

Most contractors do not charge for meetings, but it can depend on the project, mainly if it includes detailed consultations or project planning. For general estimates, homeowners shouldn't expect to be charged. Always ask up front about meeting fees to avoid surprises and ensure you know what’s included in the process.
