Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s one thing that helps, alongside vinegar and baking soda. Ice acts as an exfoliant, helping to lift off any bits of food stuck on the disposal blades.

Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.
