Customers say: Quick response

"GREAT COMPANY I wanted a fence on one edge of my property, so I got quotes from Sierra Alta and one other fencing company. Sierra Altaâ s price was much lower, and they responded much faster, so I signed a contract with them. They started work two days earlier than promised. Watching them work was a lesson in professional fencing. The finished product is perfect, exactly what I wanted. And to my amazement and gratitude, they stayed around for an extra hour to make sure that passing pedestrians did not mess with the fence posts while the concrete set. They were all great to deal with â the owner, and his brother who headed the work crew."

"What didn't this company do. Matt was awesome he built the roof on both my front porch and my back deck. He built a a door bookshelf which hides a clothes closet (I use for my yarn. He put up beams, layed my flooring, fixed my gutters, put trim up and installed my bathroom faucet. He is very dependable and through. I will be hiring him to remodel my master bathroom."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

After finishing a fencing project in Cortez, keep all permits, inspection approvals, and warranty documents. Save your fencing contractor’s agreement, payment records, and photos of the completed fence. Maintain copies of your property survey and any utility marking confirmations. Store both digital and physical records, and notify your insurance provider to ensure your new fence is included in your coverage.

Helpful?

Before starting a fencing project in Cortez, review local building codes to confirm if permits are needed, especially for fences taller than six feet. Verify your property lines using a recent survey to prevent disputes. Mark underground utilities before digging, and check for any HOA restrictions. Discuss your plans with neighbors and consider scheduling installation during the warmer months to avoid weather-related setbacks.

Helpful?

Before contacting a fencing contractor in Cortez, record your property’s measurements, note boundary markers, and identify any slopes or obstacles. Take photos of the installation area and document soil type and drainage patterns. List your goals—like privacy or security—and preferred fencing materials. Include any HOA or city requirements and your budget to help local professionals provide accurate recommendations and streamline the project.

Helpful?

The high desert climate in Cortez means freeze-thaw cycles, intense sun, and seasonal winds can affect fence installation. Use UV-resistant materials and set posts deeper to withstand shifting soil. Plan your fence installation from late spring through early fall to avoid frozen ground and heavy summer storms. Regularly seal wood fences to protect against dry air and temperature swings unique to the region.

Helpful?

Installing a fence in Cortez offers immediate privacy, security, and a clear property boundary, which is especially helpful for keeping pets safe and deterring local wildlife like deer. Over time, a well-built fence suited to Cortez’s climate can enhance property value, reduce yard maintenance, and provide wind protection. It also supports outdoor living and helps manage the unique challenges of the region’s landscape.
