"DO NOT USE CLANCY! Worst experience I have ever had working with a contractor. He lied to us for months on end, misused and mismanaged our money and then wanted another $20k to continue work he should have already done. He neglected to pay his subcontractors who were then contacting my family to try and get ahold of him to get paid. The work he did do was poor quality or not done at all. We have been informed from subcontractors that he was purposely asking for lower quality products at a lower cost so he could increase his profit, despite our requests for mid-grade products. We cut our losses and fired him. "

"Do not hire these guys. They are not professional. No prep, no power wash, no patching, no primer as was written in the contract. Absolutely no communication from them when I try to reach out. Let paint scrapings everywhere. Paint droppings everywhere as the never used a drop cloth or even a piece of plastic. They even cleaned brushes in our yard! After no response from a phone call I sent an email explaining my disappointment and have heard nothing back."

I've been in the construction industry for 13 years professionally. I've worked in steel framing, concrete, roofing, painting, wood framing, but I've been in remodels and carpentry for majority of my experience. I can do incredible things with wood and a saw.

Your deck may look or feel fuzzy after pressure washing because the high-pressure spray tears some wood fibers as it removes the outer layer of dead and discolored wood. This fuzzy effect is a normal part of the pressure-washing process and will go away on its own in a few weeks. You can opt to spot-sand your deck if you’d like to remove it more quickly.

An enclosed porch can be considered a living space if it meets certain criteria. For instance, it must be completely enclosed with solid walls and a roof. It should also have a heating and cooling source similar to the rest of the home. Finally, the porch should have direct access to and from the interior of your house.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

Even if your deck is properly constructed with a solid foundation, it doesn’t always mean it can handle the extra weight of a sunroom. Always call in a structural engineer to perform a deck inspection to evaluate the quality and structural integrity of the deck before building. While the chemical, copper-based coating on pressure-treated wood offers protection from rot and pests, it’s not a silver bullet. An added sealant will help protect the wood further, though sometimes the wood is treated in a way that causes premature failure, and this is largely out of your control. It’s simply a case of bad luck. Regularly inspect all your house’s wood to look for any cracks or signs of mold and mildew. Getting ahead of the problem is the key to ensuring it doesn’t grow out of control.
