"Facing the reality that the back of our house was not built properly and actively falling down, I was overwhelmed. I contacted an architecture firm to draw up plans to do the rebuild correctly and up to code. Once the plans were finalized and approved by the city, I had no idea how to proceed. I contacted Marquis Associates, with Sylvain as the lead contractor. Marquis Associates provided a realistic estimate and timeline which I accepted. Sylvain took total charge and provided daily updates. I never once had to question any of the process. The Marquis Associates team was professional, nice, and tried their best to not interrupt our daily routine. Since the estimate was realistic, there were no surprises thru the process. Marquis Associates was very accomodating as we added a few items to the project. This was a big project that lasted a few months. I was surprised at how clean and organized the worksite was even thru demolition. Sylvain juggled holidays and rain to keep the project going and worked with the city with inspections and approvals. The project is now complete and within budget. I am thrilled with the work of Marquis Associates and Sylvain. Sylvain will be first person I contact for any future interior or exterior projects."

"Kept me posted the whole time on when he would get there and about progress as he worked. Did a fantastic job and even cleaned the leaves out of the gutters. Left the area neat and tidy when finishes. Professional and courteous at all time. Highly recommend!"

"Excellent work. From the start he showed professionalism, punctuality, and great attention to detail. The installation was clean, well organized, and working perfectly both indoors and outdoors. He also explained everything clearly and made sure everything was safe and ready to use. I definitely recommend him for any electrical work — reliable service and top-quality results."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

You can choose to hang Christmas lights on either gutters or shingles—either option is fine. If you have gutter covers, shingles may be your only option. But, all-in-one clips are designed for both applications.

It's safe to hang Christmas lights from gutters with a few considerations. First, when installing the lights, follow safe ladder-use guidelines and avoid getting onto the roof. Second, for best results and the integrity of your lights, use clips to keep the bulbs away from inside the gutters where they could run into trouble with water or ice.

The type of lighting you choose can have a big part in the aesthetic and function of your space. Ambient lighting refers to indirect or diffused lighting that evenly reaches most areas of the space. Task lighting illuminates specific areas, such as a workspace. Accent lighting draws attention to details in your home, and decorative lighting draws attention to itself.

Safe installation involves using appropriate anchors for weight and weather-resistant fixtures, ensuring all connections are secure and safe from water exposure. Removal should be performed carefully, avoiding pulling or yanking on cables to prevent damage to lighting and home exteriors.

How many string lights can be on one outlet depends on a number of varying factors, including the total wattage of your circuit, the type of lights, the energy needs of the lights, and cord specifications. It’s better to play it safe here to protect your circuit, so figure out the max wattage of your circuit, compare that to the lights, and move on from there. Generally speaking, LED string lights require less energy than incandescent bulbs, translating to a higher number of lights per circuit.
