"The Gutter Guard men were careful and did the work expected - they cleaned our gutters, re-angled the ones that didnt drain away from the house, sealed the corners and installed the gutter guards. They were careful to take note of which gutters were at the bottom of valleys, where the downspouts would not be able to handle a great volume of water - so they put on the main part of the gutter covers, without adding the additional screening that would block the water from reaching the gutter. Yet, the cover would still prevent leaves from getting in. They were pleasant, careful and speedy. We were glad we never have to be concerned about leaves or pine needles (our neighbors have several pine trees) in our gutters. We would hire them again. Having a warranty that will transfer to the next owner is a plus."

"Since finding Perfectly Clear on Angie's List years ago, I have hired them annually in late summer (and sometimes winters for gutters).  They are terrific! They are accommodating and courteous from the first phone call for help.  Usually two young men (now familiar, and typically including the supervisor) arrive on time and set right to work, one outside around the roof and one inside.  They wear shoe coverings inside and are impeccably clean at the job.  They clean up the debris outside from off the roof and gutters.  Many of my windows have removable double or triple panes, which they dismantle, clean, and reconnect (including removable muntins) with no problems.  They are skilled at the work, good-natured, gracious, unobtrusive, and exceedingly efficient.
I have no reservations about them whatsoever.  It's a fine business.

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install or replace gutters is around $2,000, with typical project costs ranging from $900 to $7,000. Most companies charge between $4 and $30 per linear foot. The total price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the complexity of its footprint, the gutter material (e.g., vinyl, metal), and the gutter style (e.g., half-round, custom-built). Additional elements like downspouts, corners, and optional add-ons like gutter guards can also increase the price. The condition of your roof is another consideration, as new gutters cannot be installed on a rotting or sloping roof. While it can be an expensive upfront cost, new gutters are a worthwhile, long-lasting investment for protecting your home's exterior. You can save up to half on labor costs by installing them yourself.

There are a handful of things you can look for to determine if you need to pay for gutter repairs, including the following:

  • Water leaking from the underside of your gutters during rainfall

  • Visible gaps between your gutters and your roof

  • Frequent issues with gutters overflowing or holding standing water

  • Gutters that sag or pull away from the house

  • Water damage to soffits, fascia boards, or other building materials

  • Mold growth on your exterior walls

  • Soil erosion underneath your roof overhang

  • Foundation leaks or inward bowing of foundation walls

Downspouts channel water from your roof and gutters into the ground following a specific route so water doesn’t accumulate around your house’s foundation. Without a downspout, the standing water will wash away material and disrupt the soil, leading to foundation erosion. The standing water will also form ice around your house during cold weather, causing a safety hazard.

Costs depend on gutter length, damage severity, and labor rates.

The best way to seal gutters is with a combination of waterproof roofing cement and silicone gutter sealant. This powerful duo works to prevent water from escaping through holes and cracks while allowing for breathability. While you can use polyurethane sealants, silicone sealants tend to be more flexible when it comes to climate. Silicone is UV-resistant and bonds well to many surfaces. However, polyurethane sealant bonds better with wood.
