"We had a perfect dream kitchen when we left the Bay Area and while our 10 year old home we bought here in Spanish Springs was nice, it needed to be updated. "We hired McCoy Construction to help resize a few of our built in cabinets and they did a great job! Every member of the team was super friendly and were incredibly communicative. In the end the new additions to the cabinet spaces all looked super natural and functioned perfectly. You can hardly tell what they added versus what was already there even though finding the correct coloring proved to be very difficult. All in all, I would highly recommend McCoy for whatever home-improvement projects you might have."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

While a three-inch center-to-center handle is common, there’s no guarantee that sizing will be the same for every cabinet. Different types of handles have different sized holes to attach them and there are lots of different cabinet handle widths and styles. You should measure to be sure you know the size of a handle and to avoid surprises.

When it comes to kitchen cabinets, most homeowners opt for stock cabinetry. Not only is stock cabinetry more affordable than custom or semi-custom options, but it’s also typically readily available for a quick installation. RTA cabinets are popular types of kitchen cabinets as well, but often aren’t as durable and can be difficult to build.

Make sure your shelves are no more than 12 inches deep. Any deeper and it will become hard to access items towards the back of the shelf. Yet, for larger walk-in pantries, homeowners may prefer 15- to 18-inch shelving to make room for larger appliances and cookware.

If your cabinets don’t reach the ceiling, you can extend them higher, adding visual interest, privacy, and storage space to your kitchen. Depending on the height of your ceiling, you may want to extend the structure of the cabinets and install longer doors to make each individual cabinet taller, or you could add additional cabinets above the existing ones. Either option is cheaper and easier than installing entirely new cabinets.

In most cases, it’s more affordable to refinish your cabinets than replace them, with refinishing costs averaging $3,000 and replacement costs around $9,000. However, there are some instances in which it’s better to replace your cabinets, like if they’re an outdated style, badly damaged and beyond repair, or a sub-par material, like fiberboard. In all other cases, it’s usually a better idea to have a professional refinish them to save money and restore their original condition.
