"I went with Expert Home Builders on a room addition. The big and expensive project and bog responsibility but I'm happy I hired this contractor. David and his team showed up on time and they were great from first day to end of this project. David was knowledgeable, honest and helpful. He informed me about working progress all the time and contacted me immediately if there was something important. His team worked hard, kept working area clean as possible, they were professional, friendly and quick also. The project was finished ahead of schedule and results are excellent. The quality of work is superb, overall experience excellent and price very acceptable. I would highly recommend Expert Home Builders to all people I know!"

"I wanted to remodel my kitchen so I hired Aria construction. They promised to do it in a certain time and stood by their words! I was very impressed because I had past experience with a different contractor so I could compare. This was nothing like no contractor I have worked with in the past. I am in love with my new kitchen and everything went so smoothly. I really recommend this company :-))"

"

Having worked a lot of subcontractors in the past, I know that promptness is not high on many of there priorities.  Bryson and his crew showed up on time everyday that they said they would be there and went right to work.  The old paint was peeling in many places do to poor workmanship from the previous painters.  His crew easily spent more than a week prepping all the surfaces.  The paint was well done in a professional manner.  On the day of payment, he came by and we inspected all the work to make sure we were satisfied with the job.  We noticed here and there a few small places that had been missed.  He had a worker go get the paint and as we would find places that need fixing, the painter would fix it as we walked around.  The one house is 2 story and the second was much smaller but had more angles and coverings to work around.  We were very happy with the results and would highly recommend this painter for future jobs.

Garages questions, answered by experts

This is a matter of personal preference. However, building a detached structure is generally considered better if you intend to rent out the new space. The advantage to going with an attached garage addition is that you may pay less for plumbing, HVAC, and other features because you can use the existing systems from your home to carry over piping and wires.

A garage counts toward the official square footage of a house if it is considered livable space. For a garage to qualify, it typically needs to be attached to the home and have permanent finishings like proper insulation, finished walls, and ceilings. It must also be livable year-round, which requires adequate heating, cooling, and ventilation. The exact legal requirements for what constitutes living space can vary by location.

Start by assessing your needs, setting a realistic budget, creating design plans, and selecting materials. Consulting professionals for advice can streamline the process.

The smallest size a standard 2-car garage can be is 20 feet by 20 feet, so at these dimensions, you could reasonably expect to fit two cars inside. However, it’s going to be a tight fit, especially if you have larger SUVs or pickup trucks. For smaller cars, 20 x 20 should be plenty for parking and some space to maneuver around the cars. A larger garage size would be better to ensure you have room to open the doors and transport groceries or other items around the cars.

On average, a garage door can last between 15 and 30 years. However, this lifespan is influenced by several factors, including the quality and material of the door, local climate conditions, and how frequently it is used and maintained.

Key factors affecting longevity include:

  • Material: Wooden doors can last 20 to 30 years or more, while steel doors typically last 15 to 20 years. More robust options, like triple-layer steel, can last 25 to 30 years with proper care. The number of layers in a door also contributes to its durability, with each additional layer potentially adding five years to its life.

  • Maintenance: Regular inspections, cleaning, and immediate repairs can significantly extend the life of your garage door.

  • Usage and Climate: Doors in harsh climates or those used very frequently may wear out faster.

  • Components: Individual parts have different lifespans. For example, automatic openers may fail sooner than the door itself without regular maintenance, and garage door springs typically need replacement every 7 to 12 years.

While the door panels are designed to last as long as the door, they should be replaced sooner if they become visibly damaged, impact the door's smooth operation, or create a security risk.
