"I highly recommend Mosaic Stone Restoration. Jay, the owner has over 25 years of experience as a tile installer and is highly educated in installation, and restoration. He gave us many options for polishing our marble in our two bathrooms and his prices were very reasonable. He is very professional , showed up on time and work was perfect . He not only polished our hard water, damaged marble but made it look brand new."

"We have used Olympus Stone to have our marble and limestone countertops cleaned, honed and sealed as well as our stone in our master bath. The crew has been with Irma for many years and are extremely experienced and professional. Not to mention they do not gouge you on pricing. Wouldnâ  t trust anyone else, they do a fantastic job!"

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

The average countertop square footage in a kitchen is 30 square feet, but that number varies widely depending on the size of the kitchen. Some smaller kitchens may only have one stretch of countertop or an L-shape. Larger kitchens can include an island or peninsula and more expansive countertops. When deciding what works best for your home, measure your kitchen countertop and make sure to include countertop cost calculations in your budget.

While onyx is among the most expensive countertop stones, it’s not always the priciest. It is generally cheaper than Calacatta marble, which is highly sought-after for its rarity and bold veining. However, onyx still commands a premium price due to its unique translucency and delicate nature.

Granite is heavier than quartz, since it has a higher density. Quartz is made up of engineered stone, which is why it tends to weigh less than granite. Most granite countertops are ¾-inch thick and weigh about 13 pounds per square foot.

If you have light renovation experience, you should be able to build your own countertop made from wood or laminate. These tend to be the most DIY-friendly materials, but you’ll need to be comfortable using a circular saw and taking precise measurements. When it comes to installation, leave anything that involves plumbing, electricity, or gas lines to the pros.

Yes, onyx is more expensive than granite. Its higher cost is due to its rarity, delicate nature, and the specialized care it requires. While granite countertops typically cost between $2,000 and $4,000, onyx is considered a premium material. Its luxurious, translucent appearance and unique ability to be backlit also contribute to the higher price. In terms of durability, granite is a hard, durable surface, whereas onyx is more delicate and can be damaged if not handled carefully.
