Having used Pier before at a prior residence, Pier traveled 50 miles roundtrip each day to install new patio French doors in my new home. The new door had to be custom ordered (which added to the expense), but Pier did the installation and all additional work required to complete the job, including adding and painting door trim, installing original locks and hardware, patching and painting drywall as necessary, patching and painting outside stucco and surrounding wall, and rehanging door window treatments. The price was higher than I would have liked, but Pier attended to every detail of the installation, which took 7-8 days, not including the days he came to assess the job and take measurements for the new door. I particularly appreciated that he traveled 50 miles roundtrip each day. I will continue to use him as I have major home projects.

The doggie door turned out perfect, and the price was quite reasonable.
Description of Work: Pier installed a doggie door through the wall. There is a lot more to a project like this than you'd imagine. It is literally a four to five hour job. But it turned out perfect. It's great to hire someone who you have full confidence that they'll do the job right the first time.

The head of this company is Pier Angeli. Over the last number of years, we have engaged his company repeatedly, to do work both in our home and in our church, for projects small and large (as in several hundreds of thousands of dollars of work). What Pier has done has never been less than excellent. Pier is both knowledgeable about, and expert in, just about every kind of repair and construction work. When he himself does the work, he is meticulous, diligent and stringent about keeping to the highest standards. When he brings in others into a project he is heading, he closely supervises their work and insists on their meeting his high standards; and, if they fail in that regard (as happened once or twice), he dismisses them and makes sure himself that the job was done perfect. Pier genuinely cares and wants people to feel wonderful about the work he performs. If you want the best work done, you want Pier Angeli. - Adele & Rob Langworthy

I was looking for someone who could do multiple remodeling jobs on my house. To start with, I needed my front door and side door replaced. I had a bad experience with a remodeling contractor in the past so I was very cautious about hiring someone who would farm the work off to subpar service providers and upcharge me every chance they could get. I could tell from Pier's reviews and after he visited my house and did a walkthrough that this would not be the case. Pier has a clear eye for detail and a drive for quality that is very rare in the construction business. Furthermore, he did nearly all of the work himself, and even in the face of considerable amount of extra unplanned work to install the front door, did not ask for any extra money or revise the contract. As many other reviews stated, Pier is not one of the lower cost contractors. Not by far. But I was done hiring people for the lowest cost only to get lowest quality. Pier builds some amount of risk into his price so that when unexpected things arise, as they did, they are already priced in. It took him about two days to install two doors, and he did everything except painting himself. He did not finish until he was satisfied that the work was done. He came on two Saturdays so that he could work around his other projects, which I appreciated because I didn't have to take time off work. The only work he subbed out was the painting, and as he helped us decide that a fiberglass door for the side door that faced the sun it did not need painting. He ordered the doors from a door manufacturer that was made in the USA from pacific northwest wood (no Home Depot doors). The painter he uses is meticulous in prepping the site to cover all windows. As we were planning to repaint the house later, he only primed the door so that it was ready to be painted later. The primer looked so good on the outside that it felt like a new door with fresh paint and stood out. After he was done he took all the old doors and cut them down to small pieces and hauled them away. He prepped all the areas he was working on with blankets and swept up as he went, and ensured that the work site was immaculate before he left each day. Pier's payment terms are very generous as well. He took the maximum allowed 10% deposit before he ordered the doors, and didn't ask me to pay anything else until the job was complete and signed off as satisfied. Pier responds promptly to text messages and emails, but calls often and always answers his phone even when on site at another job. He cares about his clients and that they get quality work done, and is often fixing poor work done by other building contractors. With other contractors, I had to supervise the work and measure and check at the end of each day that the work was going to plan and that there would not be any snags in the future. That was not the case here, and I did not have to worry or "check in" ever, since Pier was always on site, doing the work himself, and was more accurate than I could be.
Description of Work: I had a front door with two sidelights replaced with a new door with two sidelights unit. I also had a wooden side door to the backyard that had completely deteriorated replaced with a new fiberglass door. He also cut a hole in the door for our new electronic dog door and installed it for us.

Pier completely remodeled our kitchen including custom cabinets. The really good thing about hiring Pier is that you have tremendous confidence that he's going to do a stellar job. He's a professional and brings professional craftsmanship to the job. You don't have to worry about the details because he will have already thought of them. And he handles all of the big stuff and the small stuff. So he organized and installed all the cabinetry, the counter tops, the vents and all of the appliances.

If you are looking for a contractor that will deliver a high quality finished project, look no further. And will be on site? We have used Mr Angeli for various projects over the years. Most recently my husband became paralyzed from the waist down due to septic shock. This required me to do some major remodeling on my own. Pier guided and helped me make good decisions. He took a tiny avocado green shower and with his ingenuity he turned it into a beautiful, large walk or wheelchair friendly shower. Widened 3 doors, replaced old flooring. And many other major changes. He was here every day. The sub contractors that work with him are all excellent. Did I say he is a perfectionist?

This was a really big job, but Pier was more than up to the task. I inherited an old house, and honestly it had been well over 40 years since any significant repairs were done to it. So, it was just in hideous condition. There were leaks everywhere and there were gaping holes in the ceilings in two rooms. Some people said it was a tear down. And since I've never owned a house before I had no idea where to start or what I was doing. The first general contractor I spoke with told me that we had to take it down to studs because of "mold" and "rats." And his quote was correspondingly astronomical. Pier was the second general contractor I spoke with. I asked him about one of the walls that the first guy told me might have mold. Pier looked at it, pounded it with his hand, and said, "This wall? Looks pretty solid to me." So, I had a pretty good feeling about Pier, and right away I thought that he would be able to help me figure out which parts of the house could be salvaged and which parts were beyond repair. Pier did most of the work putting the guts of the house in shape: new electrical, new roof, new framing, new copper plumbing, new main plumbing, sleeving of pipes going out to the street, new ducting, raising ceilings, scraping away the popcorn ceiling throughout the house, new tankless water heater, interior painting, new flooring, and a lot of smaller stuff which is too numerous to list. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with a house that has been in disrepair for over 40 years. Everything needs repairing. We already had some other contractor in mind for the bathrooms, kitchen and windows. But most of the tough gritty work was done by Pier. Here are what I consider his strengths: 1. Expertise and professionalism. It doesn't take long before you realize that this guy really knows his stuff. He says he specializes as a finished carpenter. But actually, there is practically nothing about building that he doesn't seem to have expertise in. And I would say he has very high standards. Admittedly, I have no expertise in evaluating whether a contractor is doing good work. But it seemed to me he had very keen eye for detail and was concerned with doing extremely good work. For example, I know that he ended up painting at least three coats of paint because he was dissatisfied with some of the work. On the whole I have a lot of confidence in Pier doing any job and doing it right. 2. Hard work and getting the job done on time. Pier started immediately after I hired him. And he worked practically every day (I think he even worked occasionally on a Sunday. In fact, when I first called him it was on a Sunday.). He was there in the morning and usually the last to leave in the evening. He knows how to schedule tasks. And he brings in experienced crews who will get right to work. This whole job was accomplished in less than three months and that's even with a major unforeseen, stumbling block that set us back a couple of weeks. I think a lot of other contractors would have been working on this house for another six months. You see that sometimes when you look at other projects that have been going on for months and months. But we didn't have to deal with that. 3. Communication. There is definitely no communication problem with him. He lets you know exactly what he's doing every step of the way. And he will tell everything about the problems and what needs to be done. When you call, he almost always answers the phone, and if he doesn't, he calls you back right away. 4. He is a good manager. You need a no-nonsense person to make sure that the work is being done correctly and on time. He's a good manager that's not afraid to make sure that everyone is doing that the job the way they're supposed to. I overheard him on more than once occasion say to a subcontractor, "That's not how it's done." And one time he sent an door we had ordered back to Lowe's because he noticed it was damaged. Got into an argument with the delivery guy about it. But it went back. Does Pier charge a lot? Y'know, it's really difficult for me to evaluate price. I've never hired anyone to do this type of major renovation and I probably never will again. I don't think he's cheap. Our total bill was almost $300,000. But early on I got burned by working with a cheaper subcontractor. If Pier had done that portion of the job from the start, I would've certainly paid more, but it would have been done right the first time and without the huge uncertainty of when it would be finished. So, I'm thinking that yes, I could have saved some money by shopping around. I might have found someone to do the work for cheaper. But would I have had the confidence in them doing the work right? And how long would it have taken? I think that there is some truth in the saying that you get what you pay for. In sum, I've learned a lot over the last three months. But if I had another house that needed major remodeling -- which I don't -- then I would not hesitate to hire Pier to do the work. Robert Bloom
Description of Work: new electrical, new roof, new framing, new copper plumbing, new main plumbing, sleeving of pipes going out to the street, new ducting, raising ceilings, scraping away the popcorn ceiling throughout the house, new tankless water heater, interior painting, new flooring, and a lot of smaller stuff which is too numerous to list.
All work completed with 10 weeks from start to finish. Pier, unlike a lot of contractors, was here every day supervising the sub-contractors, inspecting the work and getting issues corrected, used nothing but outstanding, highly qualified, experienced subcontractors who all did superior work; he coordinated the various work schedules so that subcontractors were here when necessary to keep the project moving. Pier did a lot of work himself as well. 100% satisfied.
Description of Work: Rewire the entire house, replacing 1973 aluminum wiring with copper, added new plugs, switches, install LED lamps, install EV charger port; upgrace 100 amp panel to 200 amp panel, prepare for solar install, place all TV cables inside; Paint entire exterior and interior; replace roof, adding 3/4" plywood, replace 100% of termite damaged/dry rot damaged facia with Winsdor 1; re-slope flat garage roof that wasn't draining properly; replace and install all new rain gutters and downspouts; replace 2 major support beams that were termite damage/dry rot; remodel fireplace; remodel kitchen with customized oak cabinets and modern sliders for drawers and cabinets; install 3x3 utility folding table with storage; install new external tankless water heater so that old tank one was no longer in garage; new floor tile in kitchen and entryway; remove and replace damaged floorboards in family room; mount new wall holder for new 65" TV; miscellaneous projects of a minor nature that were required to bring the house to 100% such fix leaks around the patio cover, etc.
Hiring Pier for our renovation needs was the best thing we could have done. He takes such pride in his work that he carefully listens to your ideas and brings them to life, while actively auditing for problems that might arise so they can be addressed for a final project that truly exceeds expectations. Pier has the highest standards of excellence for the finished product and insists that both he, himself and his subcontractors live up to those standards. He knows how to do almost every job and thus how to oversee others to make sure that they do everything right. He will not settle for anything less. Yet, he works fast and efficiently.
Description of Work: Restoring space after water damage
Pier did a great job, as he has every time we have hired him to improve our house. He is an expert housebuilder, and always does his work with integrity and attention to detail. We had some very specific ideas for our project, and he made them all work. The new room we added is an office that has large windows on 3 sides with a spiral staircase leading directly down to the sideyard as an added entrypoint. He created the open and airy room that we envisioned using folding windows, and integrated built-in bookshelves and the display of family heirlooms perfectly. Pier removed the chimney that would have been an eyesore on our new addition, and replaced it with a direct vent fireplace instead, creating a 2-sided fireplace visible from inside and outside. He built 2 custom mantles from reclaimed wood that turned out great. Our covered patio is also just as we hoped. We love the look and frequently enjoy the details that make it so functional: gas heaters, a ceiling fan, automated shades to block wind or sun, a kitchen pass through with a live-edge wood bar, and a high roof-line to enhance the view. Pier knows what he's doing - we have complete faith in his expertise. And he meets the challenge of personalizing the space just as we imagine.
Description of Work: Pier added an upstairs room to our house, and created a covered patio.

Needed a basement trap door to be hinged and create an easier way to open. Piers also repaired a rotted threshold and left it so much better than it was. He is an experienced knowledgeable worker and I will hire him for other projects. We have a 100 year old home and it needs a higher level of expertise. I found that in Ps handyman services. Thanks Piers.
Description of Work: Basement door and threshold repair
If you need work of almost any kind performed, Pier is your guy to call. He takes great pride in his work and will make sure your job is done RIGHT. All of his sub-contractors for each type of job were also very competent and efficient. Pier is expensive. But we now have had him do 3 jobs to either correct work that previously have been done poorly by other handymen or contractors, or to do unusual work that other handymen could not do. And there were a few ‘extra’ small things that he did without charging us for. The current work he’s just finishing now was extensive and involved several areas. They include: Replaced many rot or termite-damaged beams and fascia boards. One of the beams was 500 pounds that ran along the entrance of the house. The new beams, posts and boards were treated for termites and painted to match our existing ones. Patio Covers: Installed tinted Polycarbonate panels to cover our front arbor/patio area and the kitchen side at the back of the house. We needed protection from the sun for our shade plants in those areas, and the tinted panels look much simpler and cleaner looking than the entire back patio panels that we had Patios By B&B do that were such a disaster. Gutters were installed for both new panel-covered areas. Outdoor Electrical: Convert our low-voltage coach lights to 110 volts, install new Coach lamps that we purchased, and added new LED bulbs for those and several areas of our existing outdoor lighting. (We got tired of our halogen ones burning out all the time). Front Patio Pavers: Fix paver leveling on two small sections of our patio. One of the sections had to have a huge root dug out and removed from a previously removed tree that had created a huge ‘mound’ along the walkway. The other small area was to correct the leveling of previously placed pavers that did not flow water towards the existing drain.

As usual with Pier, superbly. A leak occurred in my garage during a rainstorm. Pier was able to be on site the next day with his long time roofer. A temporary fix was done the next day and within one week a full repair to include stripping the flat roof above my garage to the studs, replace the rotted plywood and regrade to correct the drainage. All accomplished in about 5 working days. My 6th project with Pier over the last three years (2 homes) to include repaving driveway, redo of garage, renovations of bathrooms, and general repair and upgrades and again performed to his professionally exacting standards. Highly recommend. He is a rare contractor these days. Ely - Cypress California
Amazingly well given this was done in April/May 2021. This is the third time I have use Pier (P's Handyman Services) in the last 18 months and the largest project to date. He is the most professional and exacting general contractor my wife and I have ever worked with in the various SFRs we have occupied or invested in over the last 40 years. He completed this project in 4/5 weeks from start to completion. He was on site or in touch with us daily. He will complete many tasks himself. His subs are also highly qualified and he has cultivated them for many years. All changes are carefully explained as to time and expense. I highly highly recommend to anyone who understands quality workmanship and attention to detail and old fashioned business integrity. Ely Licht Cypress, CA.
Description of Work: Exterior of House hand painted (no air guns), trim and stucco repaired and replaced as necessary, through the wall airconditioner installed, old driveway/walkway removed and replaced with pavers, side planter removed, remaining planters refaced with stonework, two car garage completely refinished with new floor, wallboards and custom cabinetry, exposed copper piping replaced and relocated, interior kitchen cabinets refinished.
Pier is, as many others here have noted, a meticulous and highly experienced craftsman who takes pride in showing up as he says he will and doing the job right. We are very happy with the work he's done in two different rooms in our condo, and we plan on dropping him a line as we decide which projects to do next. It's a great and rare event to find a real pro who can do so many different things so well. In short, if you have the chance to hire him, do it!
