"I experienced Greg to be a very accomplished, knowledgeable handyman.. because he helped me with a diverse variety of needed repairs in my home as well as outside landscape issues.. including sprinkler replacement and repairâ ¦ fixing my toilet.. and fixing bathroom shower issuesâ ¦ replacing my garbage disposal. Straightening up my forward leaning abhor with a stainless steel pole he cemented into the ground and attached brackets to abhor..I found him very professional courteous and very confident and capable in dealing with every issue I needed him to fix and help me with in a sincere and personable manner that I also very much appreciated in addition to his obvious experience and handyman skills. Greg got these jobs done for me in a 3day window I had before I left for vacation! ..I was very impressed.."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

First of all, don’t shop for bargain lights—often, you’ll end up with a faulty or broken strand, full of dead bulbs or less-than-luminous brightness. Choose quality lights that will last you many years—LED lights have been known to last as long as 100,000 hours. Second, plan ahead and purchase lights for next year’s Christmas during this year’s post-holiday sales. Finally, have a vision and a plan—if you know the measurements of your home, including any windows, doors, and outside bushes you wish to light up, you should be able to only purchase the necessary lights and not more than you need.

Inspect for burnt-out bulbs, secure connections, and protect from water exposure to maintain functionality.

Nails are a popular choice for hanging string lights, but they are not the only option. Use outdoor hooks, zip ties, or even awning hangers to string up lights outdoors. For indoor lights, use simple tacks, zip ties, damage-free adhesive hooks, or drawing pins. When all else fails, just wrap the lights around some furniture or outdoor fixtures.

A blinking, or twinkle, bulb makes Christmas lights blink. Usually, this type of bulb has a silver or red tip, making it easily distinguishable from other non-blinking bulbs. Most packages of Christmas lights come with additional blinking and non-blinking bulbs. Additional bulbs can be purchased at a hardware store or online retailer.

There are many types of Christmas lights to choose from when working with a light installer. The main types available for outdoor lighting are dome, LED, incandescent, and C9, and your lighting professional’s choice will depend on the location and overall design.

C9 lighting is typically the most expensive option, ranging from $15 to $70 per 25-foot strand. These usually have fewer bulbs per strand, so you might need more than expected to cover a large area. Dome lighting is usually the most cost-effective option, ranging from $6 to $15 per 25-foot strand. These bulbs are smaller and rounder than other options, creating a softer look.
