"There was no electricity in one of our rooms. They found it was the sending unit in the ceiling fan not sending a message to the switch. 15 minutes later, remote reprogrammed. Mike wrote down the instructions if this should happen again. Great guys"

"Wilson Electric was great to work with, they promptly responded for my request for a quote and provided me an estimated price for the job as described. The day they arrived to do the work, they finished in about 2 hours and made sure we were happy with the job. I would use them again in the future."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A home warranty usually covers electrical wiring work, depending on your specific plan. Most home warranty plans cover repairs for major appliances and home systems, including failure due to wear and tear. Home warranties aren’t as common as homeowners insurance, but they are more likely to cover old wiring.

No, it’s extremely dangerous to cap off live electrical wires. Working with live wires puts you at serious risk of electric shock, which can cause injury or even be fatal. Whenever you need to cap off electrical wires or complete any electrical work in general, it’s essential to shut the power off at the breaker before you begin.

Circuit breakers can wear out, but it takes a long time. Circuit breakers typically last several decades if they don’t face problems like floods or frequent lightning storms. Worn-out circuit breakers may trip more frequently as time passes. However, they can also stop tripping altogether, which leads to electrical dangers. If your breakers have passed the 30-year mark, it’s time to consider an inspection.

While not always necessary, wiring your circuit breaker in a certain way can ease both the installation process and use afterward. For starters, you’ll need to install the electrical panel so that the main service knockout aligns with the cable conduit. If they aren’t aligned, you may not have sufficient working space to finish running the wires. Using cable trays, on the other hand, gives you a bit more freedom to and flexibility in where and which direction you install the wires. At the end of the day, the power flow will be the same whether the cords run up or down.

Volts and watts aren’t directly convertible units—they measure different aspects of electricity. Volts measure electrical potential, while watts quantify the power. The relationship between the two is defined by the equation: Power (watts)= Voltage (volts) x Current (amperes). In other words, the product of volts and amps results in watts, but there is no fixed conversion of volts into watts.
