"Jeff, Leonard and all the workers are the BEST !! My new yard is my favorite place to hang out. They listened to my dream, took into consideration my budget and gave me what I asked for. They also completed it when they said they would ( that never happens). The workers were nice as well as respectful of my space. They even put up with my naughty dogs when necessary. If I ever decide to do my front yard I will definitely be calling them back."

"Bajascapes gave a fair price and finished the work as contracted. They worked with our design, listened to input on the materials, made recommendations and crafted a beautiful backyard space. We hired them again to rebuild a front garden bed and replace wood siding that was damaged from dry rot. Would absolutely work with them again."

They built a paver patio with a pergola, a beautiful large wooden planter box with fruit trees, a box to cover our hvac system, vines along our fences. They’re friendly, professional, and responsive. "Alex and his team were finally the answer to my struggles! I cannot stress or overstate how professional, yet personable!!, Alex and his guys are! I am getting on in age, now 60, and suddenly I could not 'hop up" on my retaining wall to get into the flower bed anymore! I had brought Alex out for estimates and meet and greet for 3 or more projects we have in mind. I HAVE to get estimates first and then budget it in to my current spending budget and Alex was very gracious and accommodating to help me, not only get the free estimates, but spent much time with me, coming back on multiple occasions to just plan and come up with a number of solutions for each idea I had for each section of landscape!!! He realized, that my husband now working out of state was leaving me pretty alone to deal with this and he stepped up as a professional and as a person to help me! We started with stairs leading up the retaining wall so I could get up there without hurting myself and he made them nice an"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Professionally done brick repointing can last 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. However, the exact lifespan depends on several factors, including the quality of the mortar, the skill of the mason, and exposure to weather. If you live in an area with harsh weather or frequent freeze-thaw cycles, you may need to repoint more often. Repointing that is done as a DIY project may only last 10 to 15 years. It's time to repoint when you notice signs of mortar failure, such as crumbling or missing mortar, holes, or vines growing between the bricks. Regular inspections can help you catch these issues early.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

Mortar, or masonry mortar, is mainly used in joints and as parging for stone, brick, or cement construction. Stucco is primarily a surface material used as wall coverings. For maintenance, masonry will need repointing or replacing as damage or land shifting occurs, whereas stucco will need patching or refinishing as it tends to crack over time along with other types of wear-and-tear.

While painting can certainly change the look of a chimney, you should think twice about giving your brick chimney the old landlord special.

Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.
