"Nicholas was nice, responsive and accommodating. We had a situation where we needed him to do electrical work on a home we were looking to put on the market and sell. He came on the exact time we scheduled our appointment and he was able to do the work shortly there after. His service was great. He came up with the idea to remedy the situation and it ended up passing the house inspection so we were able to legally put the house on the market and sell it."

"Wes did an excellent job replacing my 30 years old croded electrical panel. He is on time, friendly, a very organized and skillful electrician. His fees are fair and competitive. I would hire him again if additional electrical work is needed in the future."

"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, GFCI breakers are required for all outdoor outlets. This code requirement applies to all outlets located on balconies, decks, patios, and other outdoor lounge spaces. In addition, outdoor outlets need to have watertight covers that provide protection when cords are plugged in. If you have an older home that may not be up to code, it's a good idea to also ask your electrician about adding GFCIs to some indoor areas. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and any other areas of a home that are commonly exposed to moisture should have GCFI breakers.

Volts and watts aren’t directly convertible units—they measure different aspects of electricity. Volts measure electrical potential, while watts quantify the power. The relationship between the two is defined by the equation: Power (watts)= Voltage (volts) x Current (amperes). In other words, the product of volts and amps results in watts, but there is no fixed conversion of volts into watts.

No, wiring does not need to be redone to get a dimmer switch, as they work with single-pole and three-way switches. Just ensure you choose a dimmer that is compatible with your wiring, fixture, and lightbulbs. Most homes built after 1985 have neutral wiring and work with almost all dimmers. If your home was built before 1985 and you don’t have an updated electrical system, you may have to use a non-neutral wiring dimmer.

You should always turn off a breaker whenever electrical work is being done. This step can prevent electrical shock and injury. Also, if a breaker is repeatedly tripping, it can mean there is an electrical overload, and it should be shut off. You should contact an electrician to figure out the cause. Make sure to review how to turn off your circuit breaker safely if you do it yourself, and follow safety precautions to avoid severe injuries.

A low-voltage landscape lighting system using 15 to 20 LED lights for six hours a night will average about $5 to $10 a month in electricity costs. This is considered affordable lighting for many homeowners. Most modern landscape lights use LED bulbs, but some older styles may use halogen or incandescent bulbs, which can cost up to five times more than LEDs in electrical costs.
