"I hired Ken Johnson (Johnson Electric) to correct a number of electrical problems which were identified in a pre-sale home inspection. Among these was a replacement of an unsafe old circuit panel, all new power outlets, conduits and receptacles. Ken provided a quote which was very reasonable. Actual work was performed by two technicians. They arrived on time, completed the job the same day, and left the site in pristine conditioner. We were very satisfied with their work and based on my experience I am happy to recommend Johnson Electric for quality electrical projects in your residence."

Small jobs welcome

"El Electric sent 2 very honest electricians on 5/30/17. They finished the job in the hour I had purchased through Angie's List due to Javier's creativity of rewiring the fuse box instead of replacing the fuse (which would have cost me more money). They even had time to replace the master bath outlet with a GFI outlet. I was so impressed that I hired El Electric on 7/13/17 to add a new circuit to the kitchen. Javier's rewiring creativity again saved me electrician time and money, so I highly recommend El Electric."

"I would definitely recommend All Services Electrical. They are very knowledgeable and thorough in their work. Nothing got overlooked! They were very professional and clean. They installed some fans, some light fixtures and fixed sone electrical outlets that were not working properly. I am very happy with the work they did. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would give them more. Excellent job!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Santa Monica’s ocean air requires stainless steel or aluminum conduit, marine-grade wire nuts, and weatherproof junction boxes to prevent corrosion. Use UV-resistant wire insulation for any outdoor wiring. Flexible metal conduit and seismic cable restraints are recommended for earthquake safety. Opt for smart switches and LED fixtures rated for coastal humidity to ensure long-term reliability and energy savings in your home.

Helpful?

In Santa Monica, the coastal climate means salt air can quickly corrode standard electrical components, so always use marine-grade or corrosion-resistant materials outdoors. Earthquake safety is a priority, making flexible conduit and secure anchoring essential. Be aware of local permitting rules, fire safety zones, and historic district restrictions, which can impact your project scope—always review city-specific guidelines before starting any electrical upgrades.

Helpful?

Combining electrical work with kitchen or bathroom remodels, solar panel installations, or EV charging upgrades in Santa Monica can streamline the process and reduce disruption. Coordinating projects helps lower labor costs, simplifies permit applications, and minimizes construction time. Spring and fall are ideal for these combined efforts, taking advantage of mild weather and increased contractor availability in Santa Monica.

Helpful?

For Santa Monica homes, begin with an electrical panel inspection to ensure your system can handle modern needs. Upgrade to GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces to address moisture from coastal air. Hardwire smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to meet safety codes. Consider LED lighting upgrades and pre-wiring for EV charging, both of which align with local energy efficiency trends and available rebates.

Helpful?

In Santa Monica, older homes often have knob-and-tube wiring, minimal grounding, or undersized electrical panels, which can complicate upgrades. Homes with concrete slab foundations or thick plaster walls make running new wiring more challenging. Watch for flickering lights, warm outlets, or frequent breaker trips—these are red flags. If your home predates the 1980s, a professional inspection is wise to uncover hidden electrical issues.
