He installed the water heater and we did have hot water. The following morning we opened the garage door where the heater was installed and smelled gas. I called Water Heater Professionals and the dispatcher said that he would send someone out but told me that there would be a $99 service fee if they could find nothing wrong with their installation. The same plumber returned in the early afternoon without letting us know he was there and, since the garage door was opened, had gone into the garage. He had parked his truck in the driveway so my wife asked him to move the truck so that she could get the car out to pickup our grandchildren from school which he did. He left without telling me and I got a belligerent phone call from the dispatcher stating that "his guy" was treated very rudely by my wife and even closed the garage door on him. I said all she did was ask him to move his truck so she get the car out. He continued ranting and told me I would have to pay the $99 service fee since they could find nothing wrong which I refused to do. Subsequently the plumber returned with a bill which I refused to accept. I asked him if my wife had closed the garage door on him and he said no and that she had asked him to move his truck and that she was not rude. We went into the garage and he reiterated that he could find nothing wrong with the installation although I smelled gas and he said he did not. He then suggested that it could be something else and suggested I call PG&E since the furnace was next to the heater. I called PG&E and a service person came who also smelled gas. He used a gas detector and a gas bubble detector and found a leak at the connection of the water heater to the house appliance valve. He was surprised that the plumber did not find this. He managed to get a proper seal to the appliance valve so it didn't leak and also checked the furnace gas line and the house gas feed and found no other leaks. He left a service report affirming this. My major concerns are the safety issue with respect to Water Heater Professionals denial of a gas leak problem and the intimidation tactics used in trying to get me to pay additional money for an unwarranted "service". I subsequently sent a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and Water Heater Professionals has not responded to the complaint to date despite two letters being sent. Moral of the story is that I should have definitely done some research before making such a bad decision and, needless to say, will not use them again.

I later texted him and we quickly agreed on a time for him to come over (the next day). He arrived exactly on time with two of his employees and was professional and friendly. I showed him where water was leaking into my garage and after me giving consent, he directed his employees to tear into the drywall and find the leak. They found the leak quickly and he determined the cause of the leak (a stress related tear caused by improper installation). They quickly repaired the pipe and Scott had me run water in the upstairs bathroom to test out the repair. The pipe still leaked and they repaired it again in a different way. Scott was very knowledgeable about houses built in Foster City and I appreciated that he gave me some tips on my gas furnace and other general plumbing issues while he was here. My only concern was that he quoted me between $300-$400 and then charged me $400. However, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that the repair had been slightly more work than he had initially expected.

They were very approachable, professional, and efficient with the whole process taking a little more than a half hour. One guy focused on the fireplace, he tarped off the area, scrubbed, and vacuumed. They other guy invited me on the roof while he explained and showed me how he inspected the whole chimney aparatus. He took off the chimney cap, looked down with a flashlight looking for cracks and other wear and tear. He used a chimney sweep while communicating with the guy downstairs, \"close the flue\" and \"open the flu.\" In addition, he told me to keep an eye out for water leaks because the chimney did not have proper flashing where the stucco chimney meets the roof tiles, proper flashing is now required, but I said I was already aware of it and plan to add the flashing when the roof needs replacement. That was good advice, so in the meantime I went to the local Ace and purchased a disposable plastic putty knife and a quart of \"Henry 208 Wet Patch Roof Cement\" just in case. He also recommended a new 9\" round chimney cap because there was only a 2\" instead of an 8\" opening so it does not allow the smoke to easily exit. This explained why the smoke from my duraflame log slowly comes out of the chimney. We scanned neighboring chimney's for an example of a proper chimney cap, which I was appreciative. He offered to replace the cap for $170 including installation, there was no sales pressure. The whole job took about two hours and cost slightly less than the original estimate. The Bradford-White unit is sleek and seems well designed. The inspection by San Mateo County went without any problems. There may be less expensive companies, but the promptness, courtesy and quality provided by Water heaters Only would be hard to beat. An added note: California now requires residences to have a carbon monoxide detector if they have combustion appliances (such as a gas water heater). "This may be the only negative review of Summit Fireplace and Grill, but please take it to heart. Summit misled us about the heat that their installation would provide, then, instead of trying to remedy our issue, they acted to protect their own interests. See following detail. - We bought and had installed a Chaska-25 gas insert from Summit for about $5300. - Summit estimated and contracted the job without coming to our house o They assured us the insert would adequately heat an 800 sq ft room. - The gas guy had to alter the gas line at an extra cost of $300 above the $450 we already paid. 2 guys worked 1.5 hrs total and installed 30 feet of flex gas line. o Summit could have made us aware of this extra expense if they came to the house to do the estimate. If you are approached with a similar change order, decline it and let Summit deal with it. - We ran the insert a few mornings. It was clear that it didn’t provide adequate heat. o Our room is less than 300 sq ft with an 8 ft ceiling, far from the 800 sq ft that Summit quoted. If we had known, we would not have bought the insert. o On the highest heat setting and second highest blower setting, it took an hour to increase the temperature 3 (sometimes only 2) degrees at only 5 ft from the insert; for example, from 60 to 63 degrees. That’s still cold, not warm! - Ted came out, turned on the flame, looked at the flame, said it appeared to be working as it should, gave us a replacement remote (I have no idea why; the remote wasn’t the problem), and left. o He did nothing to confirm whether our issue was real. He did not check venting, the gas line, or anything else. - We called Ryan and said we wanted the issue fixed or remove the insert and refund our money. o Ryan said he would talk to Ted, then get back to us. o After 4 days with no reply, we sent a written statement of our request, which we believe is the only reason they then contacted us. o Note that we had provided documented tests of the poor heating, with multiple invites to Summit to repeat the experience to confirm on their own, all declined. - Ryan and Ted (I believe) then came to the house. o As Ryan requested, we had PGE first come out to confirm adequate gas pressure to the house. o Ryan tested that adequate gas pressure was getting to the insert and tested the temperature of the glass at the face of the insert. o The temperature at the glass wasn’t the problem. It’s that we can’t sit 5 ft away and get warm. o Again, no effort to confirm our issue, research causes of our issue, or remedy the issue. o Their actions seemed intended to build some defense of their system and installation that were not related to our issue. o Although we asked ‘What now?’, they just left. - This was ultimately resolved as: o The PGE guy had earlier suggested that we test the blower by watching the smoke from a piece of incense. o We saw that the Chaska-25 blower was weak. o At about 2.5 feet away from the insert, we saw an otherwise imperceptible air flow in the opposite direction actually impede the heat from blowing farther out from the insert. o We turned on our house heater fan to draw air into a vent away from the insert. This workaround allows the heat to progress into the room and provide adequate heat where we sat 5 ft away. o Compared to alternatives, this workaround was a satisfactory enough solution for us, so we didn’t pursue any other action, except to request that the electrical line be replaced with metal-clad wire, as the PGE guy also had emphasized. Summit had their electrician replace the wire. o Summit says they install to code, but when asked once, Ryan couldn’t identify the entities whose code they follow. What irritates us is that Summit could have avoided some problems by just coming to the house to do the estimate, and that they then made no attempt to recognize or resolve our legitimate issue. So beware of Summit’s false claims, poor processes, and selfish objectives."

This meant that we had to open up and rebuild the wall again. This meant another site meeting with the structural engineer, etc., etc. $$$$. This was a standard building code requirement that they did not follow. The county inspector required that this be dealt with, so the fireplace element sent out its tech again. When the tech arrived to install the sheet metal stop, he complained that my contractor not left a tall ladder. A fireplace flue installation tech who does not bring a ladder - unbelievable! "Great," he said when I told him that they had not left a ladder in place. After he got inside, and after complaining, he said he didn't need the ladder! So I have to pay my contractor and pay the structural engineer more money because the fireplace tech didn't do the job right the first time. I told the tech this, and he told me to "go **** yourself." I'm waiting to see if Corrine takes any steps to deal with this extra money her company has cost me. I will update this review for any further activity."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts
The cost to install a gas line is $540 on average, but most spend between $260 and $820. In extreme cases, your total cost could reach $1,350.
Factors that influence the cost of a new gas line installation include your geographic location, materials, and labor. Gas line installation costs are higher in urban versus rural areas due to the drilling technique required to get under road structures.
Installing a gas line can be extremely time-consuming and dangerous, so you will want to hire a seasoned professional. Perform a thorough search ahead of time to find a reputable and reliable plumber. Pay special attention to licensing and insurance as you go about choosing the best contractor for your needs.
Oil furnaces don’t emit poisonous or highly flammable gases, making them less dangerous in your home than gas furnaces because they have a much lower chance of combusting. An oil furnace does pose the risk of causing a fire if it tips over, but it is generally considered safer compared to a gas furnace.
You’ll need to increase your budget. Since you will likely need a new outlet, factor in $120 to $200 for it. If your gas company needs to run a new gas line to your oven, expect a charge between $200 to $2,000.
In North America, pipe measurements are listed as the nominal pipe size (NPS). This measurement refers to the outside diameter. As an example, a 1/2-inch copper pipe has an outside diameter of 5/8 of an inch. If a hardware store lists a pipe as having a 2 NPS, it means that all the pipes with this measurement have a 2 ⅜-inch outside diameter, regardless of wall thickness and inside diameter.
