"First, a big thank you to Angie's List and to the members who took the time to review North State Drywall. I could match anyone with "Contractor Horror Stories" before I purchased my membership. I was at the point of finding honest, reliable, qualified craftsmen or letting my house fall down around my feet.
From my first phone call with Joe of North State Drywall, I've been very satisiied with the courteous, professional manner I've experienced. I initially purchase a special he offered, but due to health issues, was not able to have the work done immediately. Before he offered his next special, he called to make sure there wasn't a problem and wanted to take care of his prior specials before he scheduled new business.
When I was ready to start my project, he scheduled it in a very timely manner. He arrived on time, wasted no time getting started and I can find no fault with his performance. Wallpaper removal can be a very messy project, and Joe made every effort to leave my home in good order when he completed his work.

As an added bonus, he is a very pleasant, courteous man and it was a pleasure th have him in my home. I would recommend him highly.

"Guys did a great job as promised.  Took advantage of a $999 special; an additional $300 for extra exterior door painting.  Approximately $1000 in paint necessary but we chose top quality paint in lieu of having Better Choice select paint.  House was power washed and some trim replaced prior to painting.  Some delays due to the high temperatures we experienced that pushed out the job a couple of times.

"Ramon is a consummate professional in every aspect! The service he provided of painting the exterior of three buildings & coordinating to have siding removed & replaced with another carpenter was not only fast, but perfectly timed! This was a very difficult job that was done during high temperature days on several buildings, one was a large two story building. Ramon & his team also painted the interior of a home that had been heavily smoked in for 10+ years. Not only can you not smell the smoke in the home do to his knowledge of how to prep the surface, we also have no worry of the nicotine stained walls showing through the new paint. Ramon guided his team through wall paper removal & he re-textured the walls and ceilings to match the rest of the home. Ramon pays attention to detail and it shows with the amazing outcome of the projects he has done for me. Ramon has an impeccable character & his morals are amazing. He always takes the hard right and his honesty is one of his intangibles that will always have me bring him back to work. He is so talented, completely honest & a genuinely great person that will make you happy that you hired him! He is the best of the best!"

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

It can take a professional anywhere between several hours and a full day to remove wallpaper in one room. How long wallpaper removal takes depends on the type of adhesive, the wallpaper’s age, the condition of the walls, and more.

Limewash can be removed from brick, but the method of removal will depend on how long the limewash has been on the brick. If the limewash has fully dried—which happens after about five days—you’ll need to use a diluted muriatic acid mixture to remove it. If there are multiple coats of limewash, you may need to apply the acid mixture several times to fully remove it from the brick.

Wallpaper steamers can be very helpful for removing large sections of wallpaper more easily, but they’re not always a good idea for DIYers. The drywall behind your wallpaper is meant to stay dry, and excessive moisture from improper technique with a wallpaper steamer can leave you with severe wall damage. Drywall also retains moisture, which could result in mold growth over time. It’s best to hire a professional to remove your wallpaper with a steamer to avoid wall damage and related moisture issues.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

Removing wallpaper can be easy if you have a non-coated wallpaper, but most homeowners have vinyl-coated wallpaper, which is more durable but tears very easily during the removal process. This feature makes it challenging and time-consuming to remove most wallpaper. There are tools to speed up the process, like steamers, but, unfortunately, it’s easy to permanently damage your walls when using them. In most cases, it’s best to hire a professional wallpaper remover to get the job done quickly and without damaging your home.
