A C-wire connects your thermostat to your household heating and cooling system to provide full-time 24V power to the thermostat. The wire connects to the terminals labeled C in the furnace and thermostat in most configurations. However, in some cases, you can bypass the fan-only function and connect the C-wire to the G terminal at the furnace. 

To determine if an electrical outlet is blown, look for visible signs of damage, like burn marks or melted plastic.
