"Our experience was FANTASTIC! Chris was not only friendly but extremely personable and knowledgeable! I had so many questions & he answered all of them plus some. He originally came over just for a quote but ended up being able to fix everything we needed on the spot! Then, when he was done checking out everything I originally called him about, I was able to go over other concerns & even future projects with him. It was such a great experience & I will definitely be calling him for all future electrical needs."

"Jeff and his crew did a great job upgrading the electrical panels at my 6-unit apartment building. The whole experience from start to finish has been exceptional and would highly recommend Cooper Electric for any of your electrical needs. Jeff's bid for the work was very competitive compared to the other bids I received. Jeff coordinated with SMUD and the City of Sacramento Inspection/Permit Department to complete the electrical panel upgrades, power shutdown and final inspection in just one day. Jeff was personally involved throughout the entire project and kept me informed on all ongoing activities."

"Matt was very professional. We found out that our ducts in the attic were disconnected and he went and got all the supplies, because he tried to connect them, but they wouldn't connect, so we had him connect them. The problem was before I moved in, they had sealed it with duct tape and over time it became so loose that it lost it's power to hold. Matt put zip ties to hold them together. Thank you Matt!"

"I highly recommend Scott and will definitely use him again.! He is knowledgeable and proficient. I had a tenant whose electricity had gone out in about 1/4 of the home. "I feel *extremely lucky* to have found a Kranick Electric to upgrade the electrical service at my home, and to replace my dangerous and old Zinsco panels with safe panels that were up to code. See my two photos below for the "before and after" pictures. I received a very reasonable estimate, so I knew how much it was going cost right from the beginning. He showed up when he said he would, and completed the work ahead of schedule. He even hung a light fixture for me in my dining room while he was here. (Thank you!!) Daniel is most personable and professional you will ever meet. I highly recommend Daniel and Kranick Electric for any electrical work, big or small. I've been very happy with his work and will gladly have him back for anything electrical. Laurie Grass Valley"

"I had Proper Power Electric come out to replace some old switches and put in a new ceiling fan in my dining room. Foster was the electrician who did the work, and he did an awesome job. Super professional, knew what he was doing, and got everything done efficiently. Definitely would hire them again!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

GFCI stands for ground fault circuit interrupter, which means it has the ability to detect a ground fault and shut the circuit down before it creates hazards. General breakers may also do that because ground faults can cause overloads, but they’re more focused on amp overloads from any cause. GFCIs are often installed in specific outlets, but breakers can come with GFCI capabilities built in for broader ground fault protection.

Electric fences use very little energy and shouldn’t cause any surprises on your next energy bill; You may only notice an extra couple of dollars on the bill. While electric fences don’t consume much energy, they still need it. If you have a power outage after a storm, your electric fence will likely stop working.

Hiring a professional electrician to wire a house costs anywhere from $1,500 to $10,000 or more depending on the size and complexity of the project. Most professional electricians charge $50 to $100 per hour. While the extra expense is significant, it’s worth it to ensure the safety of your home’s electrical system.

It’s possible to distinguish a positive black wire from a negative black wire if you know what type of circuit the wires are in. If it’s an alternating current (AC), then black wires are positive. If it’s a direct current (DC), then black wires are negative.

Sometimes, a circuit has two black wires. In that case, the positive black wire will be solid black while the negative black wire will have a white stripe on it. If you’re still unsure, you can use a multimeter to check.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.
