"I am pleased with the tile replacement/repair that Juan handled for us. He gave us a fair estimate; he was careful when removing the damaged tiles, and took the time needed to match our existing grout as close as possible. He started on a Thursday and there were a couple of delays once he started our job, but he was communicative throughout and he showed up when he said he would. I would contact him again if I needed more work done."

"When I called for an estimate I was surprised at how quickly Mr. Straus was able to come. I knew the carpeting I wanted and he was able to get it in a reasonable time. (The carpet had to be run specially by the manufacturer.) When my remodel slowed down, he was very flexible about re-scheduling the date of installation to meet my new needs. The installation was painless, with workers arriving exactly when they said they would, cleaning up after themselves, and making seams that were almost invisible, with a single exception. When I wrote Mr. Straus that my worry was not about the lack of invisibility of a single seam but the fear it might unravel with time. He guaranteed he would fix it if that happened. He built so much trust in my dealings with him that I happily accepted his promise. I recommend Mr. Straus both for

Small jobs welcome

"Endy did a very professional job. He replaced a patch of carpet which my dog dug out twice! He took his time and did not rush and the results show it. You cannot see the â patch.â I hope my dog will do this again but if he does, I know who to call. Thank you"

"The workers were very professional. The troubleshot all the floor squeeks, and eliminated them. They troubleshot the other quirks in the floor, and too care of those, too. The included replacement of the floorboards in their pricing and it looks lovely."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

Your room doesn’t need to be completely empty to restretch a carpet, but you’ll need enough space that you can move around furniture to access the wrinkled areas and the wall where you’re reattaching the carpet. A contractor will move your furniture out of the way before they start the job, but you can save money by moving your furniture before they arrive.

The best solvent for removing carpet glue depends on its chemical composition. Most carpet glue reacts well to a solvent made from orange oil. Use mineral spirits to remove tar-based glue, which has a darker, brownish tint. Methylene chloride paint stripper and lacquer thinner should also work, but beware of the nasty and dangerous fumes.

While it may not always be ideal, you can fix a squeaky floorboard without removing the carpet. Pros use specialized carpet screws and drive them through the carpet into the subfloor, securing floorboards. They may also use nails instead of screws if they suspect the pile will get caught in the screw. While some types of carpet will hide the screws and nails, a low-pile carpet may not.

Steam cleaning is the best way to clean a carpet to enhance the color and texture of the fibers. You can either rent a steam cleaner and clean the carpet yourself or hire a local carpet cleaning team for a more thorough pass.

Yes, you can revive carpet that’s flattened using household items like an ice cube and stiff brush, a damp cloth and an iron, baking soda and vinegar, and shaving cream. If you want to go all-out, visit a local home improvement store and buy a carpet rake, too. Depending on the state of your carpet, you may need to use more than one of these methods to see results. Keep in mind that you might need to repeat a reviving method more than once.
