"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"Matt did a thorough and thoughtful job, improving our simple design and building it quickly. He discovered a leaky window above the deck, and replaced the window and repaired the water damaged wall. All in all, we were very happy!"

"My wife and I initiated quite a few change orders - 13 I think in the final plan, which we made after throwing jout the first one, right after getting city approval. We put the whole project on hold for about 4 mos. when COVID hit, and during that time we came up with a completely new floor plan. I was pleasantly surprised that most of the changes, the big one from â plan 1â to â plan 2â , and then the 13 or so minor to changes to â plan 2â , resulted in little or no increase in the cost. Kent always returned calls & texts right away, showed up onsite when he said he would, and fully supported us in making the changes we wanted - he fully explained the options whenever we were trying to decide on details. Weâ ve heard two horror stories from neighbors who were remodeling or rebuilding in this same timeframe, but we have only good things to say about Kent. The same goes for my son-in-law, who had him do a smaller scale remodel the year before ours - thatâ s how we learned about Kent"

Home Building questions, answered by experts

The average build timeline for a home is between six and 12 months, with timelines pushing toward the upper end of that range if you’re creating a custom design or need a lot of land preparation before getting started. Hiring a general contractor or a custom homebuilder will help speed up the process, as you’ll see fewer delays between different parts of the build process getting done.

To get a quote from a builder or general contractor, contact them over the phone or online and explain your project. If you already have house plans drawn up, they’ll need to review them to determine the project's scope before providing you with a quote. Ask for your quote in writing and compare quotes from several pros before choosing the best one for your needs.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.
