"Hired Vic and his team to repair support posts and structure issues on our large deck. Their price beat other quotes we received and Vic was very fair and helpful throughout the process. Repairs were started quickly, and completed quickly. Quality of work is an A+. We would definitely hire this company for future projects."

"I am THRILLED with my experience with Health Stairworks, Inc. They were immediately responsive to my initial call about our stair railing project, took the time to answer all my questions and had a competitive price. They were able to get my project on their schedule earlier than expected, and the contractor we had (Russ) was simply outstanding. He was so professional, kind, curtious and FAST. He is a master as his craft and it shows. He did everything to perfection, literally. The original timeline was 3-4 days and he was done in less than a day and a half. We are simply blown away at how outstanding our entire experience with Health Stairworks, Inc. has been. The customer service, responsiveness, professionalism, quality of work and price are TOP NOTCH. They are the real deal, book them TODAY!"

"Look no further. This is the master framer and deck builder you are looking for. Strong communication skills, he has good contacts in lumber world to get fast deliveries and save some money. His crew is very good too. All new tools from what I noticed. Hired Aleksander for an ADU build in Town of Loomis, CA. He was done with 1000 sq ft plus all the changes that came up due to Engineer and bldg inspector. He even agreed to take on extra work. He also did an addition on the main house! Talk about flexible. Fair price. Fast work. Would hire again. Strongly recommend."

"We've worked with many contractors and found that good communication between customer and contractor is the most important component of client satisfaction. We are very satisfied with the kitchen remodel done by Ben and his team from HomeX. Communication was great and, most important, they did what they said they'd do, when he said they'd do it. The pricing was fair and best of all, we got to choose every little detail and customize the materials and layout. The workers were clean and efficient and the work was good quality. Would definitely hire him again."

"Long Co. did an amazing job in my house with both crown molding and waynes coating. Tbe team was very professional and it was dynamic to see the business owner at the job site each day taking part in the project. Post wood work project, the owner's affiliate, Sam Calagna from Sam Calgna painting, was very detail oriented and did a fantastic job completing the work making the project one that I will sit back and enjoy for years to come. I highly reccomend the duo of Long Co. and Sam Calgna painting. They bring the creativity, vision, and workmanship to create a value added masterpiece in and to the home."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

If you don’t have a power saw with a blade where you can adjust the angle, you could use a miter box and hand saw to make the cuts. The miter box contains wide slots to support the piece of baseboard and other narrow slots to accommodate the blade of the hand saw. However, it’s tough to make non-standard cuts beyond 30 or 45 degrees when using a miter box.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

Most contractors do not charge for meetings, but it can depend on the project, mainly if it includes detailed consultations or project planning. For general estimates, homeowners shouldn't expect to be charged. Always ask up front about meeting fees to avoid surprises and ensure you know what’s included in the process.

Many people, including professionals in the field, use baluster and spindle interchangeably to describe the vertical components of a railing (or technically, a balustrade). However, there are subtle or distinct differences, depending on who you ask. The most common interpretation is that spindles are thin or delicate versions of balusters.

Tipping contractors, builders, or general contractors is not customary or expected. Unlike many service professions where tipping is built into the payment structure, construction professionals typically charge a full rate for their services. However, you may choose to tip a worker for exceptional service, such as if they go above and beyond, stay late to meet a deadline, or work on a holiday weekend. Before offering a tip, it's a good idea to ask about the company's policy, as some prohibit their employees from accepting gratuities. If you want to show your appreciation for a job well done without giving a cash tip, consider writing a positive online review or offering to serve as a reference for potential new customers.
