"I couldn't be happier with the experience I had with this company. From start to finish, they were extremely professional, honest, courteous, and respectful of our home. They did an excellent job blowing insulation into our attic, and they made sure to keep everything clean and tidy throughout the entire process. What I especially appreciated was dealing with a family-owned business consisting of a father and his two sons. It's refreshing to see a family take such pride in their work and treat their customers with honesty and respect. Their pricing was also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of their work. It's not often you find a company that checks all the boxes: great workmanship, fair pricing, professionalism, and integrity. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have insulation work done. They definitely earned my five-star review!"

"I wanted insulation blown in above the ceiling of my condo to lessen the noise from my neighbors above. Darren was very responsive and professional and knew exactly what I was looking for. The crew arrived on time, was very nice, and covered the house in plastic sheeting to protect everything from the incredible amount of dust created by drilling dozens of holes in the ceiling to shoot the insulation. Their subcontractor Robert arrived the next day to repair the holes and repaint the ceilings. He also was able to install can lights in my living room (separate job and quote from the job Attic Construction was doing). During installation of the lights, we discovered that some of the cavities that should have been filled by new insulation were not, due to a problem with the old insulation. One call to Darren and the insulation guys showed up early the next morning to take care of it. Robert the drywall guy and his helper Carlos did an amazing job repairing all the holes, you can't even tell that my ceiling looked like swiss cheese at one point. The reduction in sound coming from upstairs is noticeable due to the new insulation and I love my new lights. Be aware though that a job like this is incredibly messy and dusty but Attic Construction OC made it as easy as possible."

"I was happy with the process from start to finish. The company is very dependable and does good work. They cleaned up before and after insulation which I appreciated. He even told me that my ductwork needed to be looked at. He told me that he would wait until I got that fix to finishing my insulation. Which I thought was thoughtful of them to do. They are flexible and reliable, I would 100% recommend this company."

Drywall Insulation FAQs, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

You can put drywall mud over paint to even out the surface or entirely resurface it. Sand the surface with 280-grit sandpaper, vacuum the debris and dust with a shop vac, and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. Allow the surface to dry. Apply drywall primer, especially if you’re skim-coating an entire wall. Apply the right type of drywall mud over the surface and smooth it with a trowel. Allow the layer to cure fully, then sand it before applying another layer or painting it.

Both plaster and drywall are durable wall finishes, but they differ significantly in installation, cost, performance, and aesthetics.

Installation & Cost: Drywall installation is faster and more affordable, typically costing $1.50 to $3 per square foot. It uses premade sheets, making it a more accessible DIY project. Plastering is a labor-intensive craft that requires specialized skills, pushing costs to $2 to $10 per square foot. It involves applying a wet paste over a lath framework.

Durability & Performance: Plaster is generally more durable, longer-lasting, and provides superior soundproofing. It is also a better insulator, which can help reduce energy costs. Drywall is easier to remove for future renovations.

Aesthetics: Drywall provides a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or texture. Plaster offers a high-end, naturally textured look that can hide imperfections and is often preferred for achieving a classic or historic aesthetic.

Which is better? The choice depends on your priorities. Drywall is ideal for those prioritizing a lower upfront cost, faster installation, and DIY potential. Plaster is the better option for a higher-end project where durability, soundproofing, and a unique, premium finish are more important than the initial cost.

Yes, you can use drywall repair techniques for some types of plaster damage. Tiny holes and small cracks in plaster can be patched in similar ways to drywall. You apply the necessary compound to fill the hole, wait for it to dry, then sand it down. For larger damage, like water damage or mold, you need to use plaster-specific techniques and materials.
